Firefox for browsing and avast as my virus real time scanner. Haven't had a problem with spyware/adware and messed up registries ever since.

Ya it's better IMO. None of those annoying pop ups, no spyware or adware.

The real time virus scanner is free as well and it is very thourough as it searches. Also doesn't call changed files and such virus' like Norton always does.
 
I myself use Avant browser [Nice rip off IE Version 6] , Firefox and also K-Meleon which is brilliant and better than Firefox IMHO details here http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/ also used Opera and liked it, but will wait till version 8 is out. Once thats out I will scrap Avant browser and perhaps Firefox. I have also used MSN explorer but it was full of spyware etc etc.
 
I use Firefox, It's brilliant. Haven't picked up any new spy-ware since I started using it. I use to get loads, like everyday new spyware using IE
 
Sweet Red you are the KING of good software on the freebie for sure!! I'll be using Firefox for my personal browser. Can you recomend a good progam for removing internet tracks and cookies and typed passwords and such. I have been using IEGuard from Guardwall. They have been in business for 5-6 years now. But they have given up on the program and have given it away for free after charging for it for the past years @ 29.95 with free updates. It was great but they dont support it anymore. So I gotta start looking. Any ideas?
 
I use Firefox and find it excellent. For antivirus I use Spyware Doctor which works really well. I've used many anti spyware programmes and this is the best in my opinion.

I myself love Cyberscrub version 3 [not free but if you look it has a crack]
It removes that stuff quite well, also windows washer is good.
To stop cookies than look into cookiewall which is also free.
Plus check out http://p214.ezboard.com/bdigitaldigest its a GREAT SITE for your compute needs, just ask and they answer. Phlux is a great guy there with lots of useful info.

No probz...also AtGuard version 3.2 is VERY GOOD to use alongside a firewall, it blocks cookies you want, alongwith [words=http://www.phallosan.com/shop/catalog/default.php?z=eNortjIxtVKyL0pNszWxMFcrSSxKTy2JL0hMT7U1UisoykyxtbBQSy4tLsnPjS8uKcrMS7dVsgZcMMpbEbo%2C]ads[/words], refers and monitors traffic. Also has a stadard firewall built-in. Project was by Symnatec [BIG name] but has now been stopped because the program was imported into Norton security 2000 but didnt go well with that....on its own this is FINE. I use it with Zone Alarm and cookiewall. Its extra protection.
 
I use FireFox for everything except for checking up on my website cus it's for IE or above and the html doesnt show up right. But FireFox is much faster, especially on DSL :D
