Body Weight Conditioning VS. Weights?

Damn, this guy knows his stuff for sure. I just finished 30 hindu squats...first time doing anything like them, and was sweating! Cant wait till I can get into position for the hand stand exercises. Think I will recruit my fiance to help with those until I build up some more shoulder strength. Here I thought I was "strong" being able to bench 225 for reps.

read that first. just my 2 cents. I was thinking about doing it myself

Have you actually tried any of his exercises?? Granted I always look into stuff thoroughly, and also always take everything I read/see with a 'grain of salt' per se. I do not believe I would buy this guys' programs, but there are several of 'his' exercises that are VERY good. The hindu squats, some of his ab exercises, and upper body exercises like the hand stand stuff (which I'd never personally thought of/heard of before) are just a few. I am currently using a program that I have put together by taking an exercise here, an exercise there and I'm doing them almost daily, and I feel better and am getting stronger than I've been in a few years.

I'm sure this guy acts like he knows more than he does or comes across a little to authoritive on the whole body weight exercise thing, but many of his concepts are very well grounded. Most armed forces around the world use a calisthenics program for very good reasons, because they do work.

There will always be people who prefer to lift weights only for whatever their reasons. Many of them do not do a complete body program, and over-work a limited number of muscle groups, and that will catch up to them later in life in very negative ways.

Who wants to be in their late 50's with bad rotator cuffs, and a bad back because they were able to take pride in bench pressing twice their body weight and deadlifting the same? Sounds good to me ;)

I prefer the lean, and ripped look to the 'I work out way too much, and can lift more weight than I need to outside of the gym' look.

Whatever floats your boat though. People are people, and will pursue what they desire. It is amusing to me when I go to the gym, and see the guy who weighs 50lbs more than I do walking around like he cant lower his arms all the way to his sides like some gorilla, and I can knock out 20 pull ups, and run 2 miles...while he can barely walk fast around the gym without getting winded, and gasping for breath.

Big, bulky, and unhealthy? I dont get that. rofl

Wikipedia is a joke, in terms of bias, but there is some truth to what is written here.

I was a Furey faithful for about 3 years or so. The last time I ordered something from him was probably about a year ago or so. My main complaint is that I need greed has tapped him out and made him her bitch. His products were always a little pricey, but it's gotten outrageous at this point. I went to one of his personal events where I worked with him personally and it was $1000 for the three-day event, which is what a lot of guys would charge. Last I looked, he charging $2000-$3000, and he never answered my questions I had at his event. He had everyone come up with 2-3 questions to review individually as people was leaving the event and he was getting backed up and told me to e-mail him directly, but he never responded. It just left a bad taste in my mind. I am convinced the guy would charge $297 for his mother come eat Thanksgiving dinner with him. BUT WAIT!!! If you are among the first 99 of Matt's mothers to commit to Thanksgiving Dinner, you will get the meal for the incredilby low price of only $197. Depending on his mood, Matt could pull this special offer at any time, so act now! The ridiculous pricing never seems to peak with this guy.

As for his products, his Combat Abs is good stuff and I think Combat Conditioning has some pretty good ideas too. His DVDs have some good grappling ideas too, although any serious student should just view them as a supplement to regular training at a good Muay Thai or BJJ school. The Royal Court is a little questionable in my mind, and a physical therapist I worked with felt the same way when I showed him some of Furey's materials. I worked my way up to 150 hindu squats every other day and the result was some cartlege damage. My knees are forever messed up. Now, let me state that I don't feel that for all the longer I had been doing the hindu squats that they, in and of themselves, tore my knees up, but probably agrivated a pre-existing problem. The hindu pushups are pretty strenuous on the rotator cuff and I developed bursitis in my shoulder and may eventually need surgery when I overtrained on hindu pushups and combined it with excessive practice for archery season with a bow that was a little tough for me to handle. NOTE: I am not blaming my injuries exclusively on the Royal Court, but simply saying that those movements ARE strenuous on the joints and I would recommend beginnners modify them. The therapist I worked for thought hindu squats were a disaster for the knees, but I've seen serious MMA fighters throw a pair of 45 lb. plates on a barbell and do hindu jumper squats, which is insane. If you're in top condition, your body can handle these exercises with ease, but they are not for beginners.

Whats unreliable about that?

Well, it's like watching "NBC" news or any other mainly Liberal news channel. You only get the one side of the story that suits their agenda.
