I've just starting jelqing and I always get hard when I start doing it, so I have to stop wait and continue but I don't think I can get alot done.

Would it be better to jack-off first and then do the exercises?

I was curious about this too. I feel like if I jelq at 100% erect, or close to it, then I'm not feeling any expansion, thus, I feel like nothing is getting done.

Yeah I have the same feeling when I get near 100 percent erect. I didn't really see expansion or gains from jelqing alone but I do think it helped with EQ
 
In my experience I have always followed the 100% rule. If I train at 80% and get 20% expansion I am not really doing much. If I train at 100% and get the same 20% expansion, well now I am doing something. If jelqing does not seem to be your thing I suggest trying Slow Squash Jelqs as they bring massive expansion even when training at 80% I still get way beyond the 100& mark.

But I thought you were not supposed to Jelq at 100%, I swear I read it somewhere.... I could be totally wrong though.
 
That's what I thought too! DLD himself wrote it in the sticky lol. But that was years ago...

Basic Jelqing
With desired lubricant (I highly recommend Vaseline) cover hands and penis completely. At this point you will want to have about an 80% erection (semi-soft) Now in a seated position with your palm down grip your penis with the standard OK sign grip.
