We are planning a move to a solid state server, this will make us completely bullet proof to outside, trolling sources. We will be getting the highest RAM upgrade so that the forums will be running even faster and back ups will happen every 12 hours. In addition to this we will be upgrading to the newest version 5 of VBulletin. The forums will become much more user friendly and give users many new options that were not available before. This is a very exciting and big step for us, the cost alone will run into $500 per month, plus tech support. This does sound very expensive but I feel it is worth it to the security of members and the data you entrust us with. You will be happy to know that this new system will be bulletproof and stable as fuck!

There will be some short periods of down town but very little. If it does happen this means the server is being worked on. I am promised no more down time than 2 hours. They will also be doing the major move on on Sunday, at 2AM...the slowest period of traffic for us. Thanks for understanding as we clean and fix up the old girl!

Sounds outstanding!
Now, how does one go about putting up the "DONATE" like to paypal?
With the membership around here, if every swinngin' dick chipped in about a buck a month you'd do fairly well, right?

I will only ask if I need, I am proud to make these payments, they are for our future and the collection and preservation of data. We live in an age where information is everything and the data collected on MOS is what will teach far beyond our time here....old-timer:)

Well, my biggest dream, as a youngster was to score these guys:

the ORIGINAL Matters of Size Forums were so much more fun than these new fangled computer systems. Here is a picture of a young DLD making his first posts on the MOS.....way, way, way before the internet:)

I just love the idea of going to a solid state drive, this is the most secure way to store data, these drives never fail.

I love the squirrel-powered-computer!

The spam seems to have found a way around our new method of membership moderation. We are now looking towards a plug in that requires the user to leave the site, go to a secondary site, get the code and return to the first. There is also a hack that requires the user to look up a Wikipedia question to register. In a final attempt, if non of this works I will set up a payment that has to be made to join, something nominal, maybe $1, enough to ward off these losers, robots, half-bots or 15 year old boys trying to make money out of their basement. Most serious online people own a PAYPAL account and if they don't it is pretty easy to set up. Maybe give levels of membership that include full access to the video site, I mean it could actually benefit us.

I know, when all else fails with the spam registration, that if someone is serious enough about joining, they will pull their wallet out and pay. Sad? Yes, but most likely necessary. We are the largest forum of our kind and I think MOS, in it's current historic data, it is valuable enough to charge a fee. Never did this because I really don't do this for money but I know it would weed out the men who really want to learn this art and those who want to abuse our forums.

Well, I will wait to hear what Jaz says. I am also having 2 other people looking into options. If I could take all the time I deal with SPAM and put into what I really am meant to do, well maybe there would be a few more inches out there:)

This is a good news for everyone! I am excited to see the new MOS. I bet it will be soooo hella cool...

We are now testing the new forum, version 5, and it is an amazing interface. Since it is brand new we will need to be sure it is stable enough. What I can't wait for is the social interactions that will be possible. For Facebook fans is that they can now easily interact with a click of the button and simply like a thread, post or blog. Testing may last for some time because of bugs and other issues. Some of the new features are:

  • A re-architected Core which provides easier customization and display layer extensibility through a central API
  • Dynamic new Site Builder tool with page templates, drag-and-drop page configuration and in-line site editing
  • Modernized UI designed to encourage user engagement and content creation
  • Customizable content modules that provide enhanced discovery, engaging users into deeper site visits
  • Improved social functionality including redesigned user profiles, comments functionality, an integrated messaging hub, social content curation and real-time updates
  • Integrated mobile-optimized version for use on smartphones, ensuring these visitors stay and return
  • Integrated monetization from VigLink
  • Built-in SEO to maximize search traffic

Lets hope so. I am back to 24 hour spam watch. I guess it does not take these robots long to hack a new system...very futrating. I sit there, at 3am, watching who's online and pick them off like I am bucking off shots from my 357.

That sounds great!
By the way; what fukkin' language was that ?

Anyways, do they have a button that automatically follows SPAM back to point of origin and nukes the fuckers via the web?
I'd buy that for a dollar.

I can only get on here sporadically right now; with this great weather my l'il guys are runnin' my monkey ass ragged, but when I do get on the first half on any session is pure-dee SPAM killin'.
You so damn right when you say dem slimey bastids are industrious..
I really wish that "nuke-back" button was a reality.
