Has anyone tried it? He says that you can burn fat and gain muscle mass at the same time. I want to gain muscle but I also need to lose some fat.

Nahh I don't think so. Even if it were possible it would be REALLY hard to achieve. It's simple - bulk first and then lose fat or first lose fat and then bulk. BTW I'm not a diet expert and I've never heard of this diet. Low carb is your choice. When done properly I think it can even be used to bulk.

I don't believe it is.

It's possible (even for a natural bodybuilder), but the amount of tinkering required will surpass the knowledge most guys have. You'd essentially have to know the effects of what you're eating and how you're working out on a precise cellular level to be able to fix your diet/workout for that to happen. And, even if you could do it, the muscle growth would be extremely slow. I think it's far more convenient to do seperate bulking and cutting up cycles to get the fastest possible results with both. Otherwise you'll most likely end up in a rut, with no aspect of your body changing noticeably even over long periods of time.

IMO, if you have a lot of bodyfat I dont think you should even worry about bulking. A lot of fat people try to bulk and kid themselves into thinking they are big and muscular when they are fat. i used to be that guy.

Try to lose fat while "maintaining" as much muscle as you can. This is probably best done using a small calorie deficit of maybe 500 a day while engaging in strength training.

Then once you get lean, if you see a need to add mass, then add calories slowly and in a staggered fasion. very slowly or else you will get fat. And lift probably less frequently but progressively. thats my take on it anyway.

Yes, it is possible to lose bodyfat and add muscle. it is probably very difficult to say the least. it would require a body recomposition where your weight would probably stay around the same but you get stronger and drop fat through a complicated diet including a cycle of carb loading, carb depletion, and so on. Rather than fuck around with all that shit, for myself, and possibly do something wrong and make things worse. I just try to be rational and incremental.

It is actually pretty easy to do as a novice body builder. When I first started I lost 40 pounds quite rapidly and gained tremendous amounts of strength all at once. Further down the road, as has been mentioned, it's really very challenging. The trick is to keep the calorie deficit to a minimum all the while eating foods/supplements that keep your body in an anabolic state (such as whey) no more than 3 hours apart all day.

In all reality it's alot easier to do a bulk then a cut than to try for a lean gain.

arawndark Jason1 said he wanted to gain muscle not strength. You can reduce the catabolic state to a minimum but I don't think you can keep your body in an anabolic state while losing weight.

Indeed, I should have noted that during that period my muscular size also increased. It's the "newbie gains" of weight training, it can happen quite readily when you are young (tons of hormones rushing about) and new to lifting. Although I'm not sure how old Jason1 is, so the point could be moot.

I wish to say it is quite possible to lose fat and gain muscle....it's all in how you diet and the supplements you use... if you get plenty of protein in your diet and you lift heavy enough to elicit a growth effect, and you keep your carb intake low glycemic during the day and post workout take in a high glycemic index carbohydrate to maintain adequate levels of glycogen....then your workouts will continue to be productive and you will lose body fat and gain muscle at the same time....also depends on style of cardio program....yeah....if anyone would like more info on this you can Pm me and I can direct you to some useful info in regards to this....

not sure on his height, I think around average height and about 180lbs.

Calorie is a measure of energy potential in food. If you are calorie deficient then your body has to take from its own energy reserve (fat). You can still gain muscle in a beginner or intermidiate stage of bodybuilding. On the top level you need all the energy you have to train with superheavy weights. They don't need to gain fat to bulk, but they do because it is better to err on the excessive side.

Another thing i saw recently was HIIT cardio training. Do a google search to learn details. It is basically 10-20 min, and you alternate jogging and a 90% sprint. The theory was interesting. I may try it next month.

HIIT cardio is very effective, but it can also burn you out faster than you'd expect. It is very easy for your legs to become overtrained if you follow through with an intense HIIT/bodybuilding regimen at the same time. This nearly happened to me during my last cutting up cycle, so I had to cut it short.

I would advise you to REALLY start off slow, maybe with 5 minutes or so, and gradually build up to 15 minutes, tops. You may think that 5 minutes sounds like a waste of time, but you'd be surprised at how effectively the fat is burned even in such a short time.

Will do. Thanks man.
