Stickies and Pics -- What's the Policy?

Stickies

I've been wondering for the last month or so what the forum policies are regarding stickies and pics. To be more specific, I notice that some threads have been "stuck" at the top of a forum for quite some time now and in some cases I do not understand why. I really think the mark of an outstanding web site is to constantly maintain freshness. That would mean to monitor stickies and replace them when needed. Most often when members (especially new ones) check out a site, they don't want to have to scroll all the way down to see new posts. I think one way to differentiate between a thread that perhaps could remain a sticky for more than a month is if it is instructional. Otherwise, if it's a pic of someone's dick, I don't know why it needs to remain a sticky (unless it is to massage someone's ego). After all, when it is posted, it is automatically at the top of the list and viewers will post comments so it will remain there for awhile. When the interest in a thread wanes, it will recede naturally to the second and third pages of the forum. And then a member can always use the search function to find it when as time goes by.

Pictures

The other issue that concerns me is the posting of pics. Of course everybody is interested in pics. I also know that DLD has very tactfully asked for contributions to help maintain the site -- make it bigger and better. I have responded to DLD's requests numerous times. I have always been led to believe that bandwidth is very expensive. It is my view that anyone who posts numerous large pics should think twice before doing so. While some guys (probably not all that many) may appreciate this, I and probably the majority, do not. I suggest that if people have many large pics to share with members that they set up their own web site and start a thread here with a link to the web site. That way, everyone's interests can be met -- members will have access to the pics with a quick click on the link and costs can be kept down here.

Perhaps these are topics that mods should consider. These are just my two cents worth for today.

I agree with ya wholeheartedly Tennisnut. We've been tackling the stickying issue for quite awhile now and certain mods just don't seem to be conceding to the group's decision. About the pictures, I never thought of that until you brought it up, but I definately agree. I an one of the bigger donators to the site, and I don't mind giving what I consider to be a fraction of what i've gotton back to the site. However, some of the recent picture threads have blew my mind. People post literally DOZENS of pictures sometimes, of their friends, family, car, gf, ex gf, and even their CAT, lol. This upsets me, because a small fraction of the members here do this kind of stuff and it costs the forum a ton of money, I hate to think that all my donations are wasted on bandwith for pictures that aren't Penis Enlargement related and only for certain member's egos. We'll have to wait for more of the mods and admins to chime in on this though.

Gandolf, I agree with you 110% but nothing will or does get done.
I cant do anything.
When I try either I get shit thrown back at me or no one backs me up.
But YES, I have NOTICED the goings on that you mention, and its SAD that the money from KIND people is being wasted on SPOILT BRATS egos to post SHIT after SHIT and waste the important bandwidth, yet they dont seem to care.
I would edit them if I could, but dummys would be spat out lol and feet stamped lol

I have gotten so many complaints and concerns about stickies that I think I am going to disable the function for now and only allow forum specific informational threads, decided by myself, to stick. Stickies are something that are causing me more anguish then they are worth so for now I am eliminating all stickies with the exception of the ones I deem as necessary to the forums operational livelihood.

Thanks for understanding.

is the same rule not being applied in the other sections?

Not for now, it seems as though this is the only forum with issues unless there is other stuff I don't know about.

Well I was under the impression ALL sections needed treatment.
SOme other sections are VERY one-sided as to the way they have there threads stuck.

Red if you want stickies taken down so bad, dont you think that you should lead by example and take yours down first?

I personally refer to the stickies often. How about a new forum for older stickies that only mods/admins can post new threads to, but still leaving the threads unlocked for new posts?

That is a great Idea. I am going to do something like this. Thanks 9!

Now that's taking charge! Great idea DLD, you've got my support!!!

I like wants9's idea best. I think if a particular thread is very influential to lots of people (for instance the ROP thread and various widely used exercise threads like Slammers, constrictors, Blasters, and girth busters) it should be easily reached even if there is no response on the thread for a few weeks. I think a "The Best of [words=http://www.mattersofsize.com/join-now.html]MOS[/words]" forum would be great, and only Mods could move a thread into that forum. Great idea.
