Presidential election

As somebody with an avid interest in politics from the UK i have also been watching the presidential debates and so have opened this thread.

Will you be voting or are you apathetic?

Obama or Romney?

..

I obviously cannot vote because i am not American however as an English Tory i would likely vote for the Libertarians in Congress but Obama for president. Essentially whilst Obama has lacked energy in the first two debates i have seen little substance behind vague 'i will cut taxes, i will have a strategy' from Romney, i also thought that Obama pretty much crushed Romney last night.

I will add that Republican economics are probably best but being pretty liberal i find the views of people like the Tea Party somewhat distasteful and so whilst i have come to like Romney more than i did, it is the party rather than the man which would put me off (though i still prefer Obama over Romney - if Johnson the Libertarian candidate actually had a chance then i'd be voting him - On the ballot in all 50 states this time).

Sadly, given the current choices, damn near everything I've ever heard Ron Paul speak about publicly makes more and more damn sense each and every day.

Sadly, again, the American public doesn't choose the President, and hasn't for decades.

I have been leaning towards Obama because Romney has been unable to provide specifics as to how his limiting deductions/loop holes will generate enough savings to pay for his additional spending. However, in the last debate he gave an example of setting a ceiling such as $25,000 on the maximum allowable in deductions which would reduce the amount of deductions available to the wealthy and thus significantly increase their tax burden. As a result, I started to move toward Romney.

Since there was no subsequent clarification of this issue, I moved back onto the fence. During last nights debate, Romney again referred to the "statement" that Obama Allegedly made regarding the need to have light between the Israeli and US policies regarding the Middle East. According to a fact finder after the debate, there is no record of Obama ever making such a comment. Apparently, a Wall Street Journal reporter is the only source of the comment. Yet, this morning, VP candidate Paul Ryan again put forward the "need for light" as a major difference between the two candidates' foreign policy. Accordingly, I have jumped off the fence on Obama's side. At least for now.

This is interesting, seems the rest of the world overwhelmingly wants Obama (its notable that globally the Democrats and incumbents do get more support)..

I personally think that Obama does need to do more on the economy via tax reform but i do agree that US military spending should be cut (more drones but you don't need 300 ships) and as somebody outside the US, Romney's attitude toward Russia is frankly a little worrying. In particular however i think that Romney has little substance, much of what he says is rhetoric and contains no specifics.

In regards to Isreal i think Obama just means that the USA should be allies with other Middle East countries as well (Egypt for example, Iran if it ever becomes a democracy) because some presidents have seemed to put Isreal on a pedastool.

The better of two evils....

To a degree, yes.

Then again, party politics is partly about consensus rather than pure 'this is what we will do from the leader' so even if i for example want mass tax reform the rest of the party may object.

I also note Romney's attitude towards China is extremely hostile economically. It's true that China for the most part does fix their exchange rates but since Obama came to office they have slowly removed restrictions, i think diplomacy is a far better idea than Romney's sanction plan to start a trade war.

I'd be interested to know what the American view of the Tea Party is, complete nutters or the only people to have seen the light.

Um, how about Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate? I don't see why all these Ron Paul supporters get down with his ideas and because he doesn't get the nomination we all give up and say, "Well I'll just vote for the lesser of two evils". I voted today and I voted for Gary Johnson. If was run over by a car and died as soon as I left the booth I would have died with a clear conscience because I knew I didn't settle for less and choose another status quo president. People need to recognize there is no difference between Obama and Romney. Neither of them are willing to make the hard decisions and fix our economic situation. Neither of them want to end the pointless invasion of Muslim countries. Neither of them are willing to allow social development to take its course. Neither of them are even going to address the drug situation. WHY HASN'T WEED BEEN LEGALIZED YET? I know Gary Johnson isn't going to win this election, but if people actually voted Liberty once... just once... the party would get enough funding and support to show up in the mainstream media.

No government will protect me and my family
my family will and I would hate to try to take something from someone like me:)

I choose not to be informed nor inundated by the political circus, the parties, their lies, or anything else they are promising or trying to con with. I choose to completely ignore...I could give a fuck who is in office really. It has had no impact on my life in any way. The last presidential change that even had a remote effect on the way I see government is the discontinuing of the penny, and now the nickel. This reminds my of how we first lost our gold, then our silver and now they want our copper, nickel and zinc back...whats next, our blood? I choose to live in a world governed by myself where I work for myself and I save according to my needs. I guess with QE3 and even 4 in the talks, we might as well start burning our paper. We are on the cusp of a massive decline in the way things work. If you do not start collecting hard assets in physical form soon you will be out in the cold. If you do not know how to survive off the land you will be fucked. What is important to collect and store?

Gold
Silver
Copper
Nickel
Zinc
Water and food in storage for at least a 12 month period for each member in your family
Guns and plenty of Ammo
Property with shelter during all out situation (see AlphaBlade's underground vault:))
Clothing and dry good for at least a 12 month period for each person in your family
Keep a 6 month supply of Potassium Iodide for each person in your family in case of lead fall-out
Batteries and plenty of them, remember, without batteries you will not be able to do ANYTHING! There will be no electricity..lol
Learn how to hunt, plant and build
If you are dependent on anyone else for something you depend on now learn what they know NOW!

Time is very short and what is about to befall us is so much worse than anything we have ever witnessed...No man knows the time but be sure to be prepared. Obama, Romney or any other political entity will not feed you when there is no government left. I am ALL SET! I am prepared and I keep adding to it as much as I can.

Some Photos to inspire what America is all about!

^ Until some feminist gets elected and wants to put a tax on men with big dicks because she never got one cause she was a fucking prude. Then it will effect you. $20,000 for every inch over 5.5 anally. And the tax money will be used to pay teachers in a new mandatory public school class that convinces straight girls to become lesbians for the sake of birth control.

That rap battle is funny.

The storm in the north east provides a chance for either candidate to surge in the swing states which is unprecedented so close to an election but my prediction after looking at the data before the storm is for Obama to win, 296-242.

I love you! You are one of my favorite posters! You always have the best slant on the comedy level...so does MikeShort. You guys really make me smile, quite a bit!

Yo, by the way, I sent you a PM but might as well highjack the thread for a second and ask here, where is that MMA video you were fighting in? Iwanted to show my boy Jaz.

Damn DLD! You got yourself a snowmobile! With all your devices and supplies there better be an apocalypse or your out a shitload of money!:P

That is where many are mistaken. I invest strictly in commodities, all the surplus I have (in case of disaster) is in items that can be sold at a much higher price than I purchased. Just to lay this out so you guys can take advantage of my knowledge and skills in investing, I do not buy anything that does not make me money.

The AlphaBlade Studio where I dwell has a underground bunker. This was dug deep into the ground last year when we started the project. That was money that I had to spend, what is the point of preparing for apocalyptic disaster if you do not have a space that is able to contain what is necessary to survival. So, yes, I did have to spend some money to make this a reality. Now, the AlphaBlade Studios is a property that is owned by the AlphaBlade Co. Property is as good as Gold, so this investment is very obvious, it is one of necessity!

Next, let us explore what I collect and why and how it benefits me.

Precious Metals: Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium
Historically PM's have been a protection of wealth and an investment that ultimately gains over long positions. In any metal I collect I buy in dips (when the market is at a low) and I never sell. My position is very long for 2 reasons, 1.) I know that every ounce of these metals are going to go up in value 2.) If there is a collapse of the financial markets my wealth would remain intact due to my form of "money" being PM's. A $100 bill is a useless piece of paper in a apocalyptic crash, a piece of silver or gold will remain intact as "money". So it is obvious, with a investment frame of mind, that buying these precious metals will only preserve your wealth and appreciate greatly over time. Just so you know, Gold 10 years ago, when [words=http://www.mattersofsize.com/join-now.html]MOS[/words] opened, was at about $300, since that time it has seen prices as high as $1,900.00+! In ten fucking years! Silver, at the same time, correct me if I am wrong, was in the $7 area, at it's highest point last season, Silver hit $48.00. So you can see that there is a very obvious investment advantage and a preservation of wealth and the ability to rebuild in a broken society.

Base Metals: Lead, copper, aluminum, nickel, zinc, Uranium
The value of this investment is based solely in futures and how and what position these metals will hold in a evolving world that may not have the capacity to deliver electricity or any of the other services we have become spoiled by. What happens when you can't plug it in anymore? Base Metal take over! Batteries are in almost every device today, eventually the battery or the value of it's components will skyrocket. Copper, Zinc, Nickel.....all very necessary in battery production. In addition, Lead is very important in the sense that if you have a fall out shelter and you have a well, both can be lined with lead allowing for clean drinking water and living environment during a nuclear event. Lead is very important to the future.

Dry Goods, Water and Potassium Iodide:
Buying food, water and Potassium Iodide for 6 months for each family member is an investment that I believe to be most important. Today there are many sources for food that has a shelf like of 14-20 years, keeping a well stocked shelter will bring you security and if nothing ever happen, you lost nothing, just eat the food and drink the water. If you have surplus of these items during a disaster you can greatly profit. I have seen batteries, generators, water, food and Potassium Iodide go for 10 times their value during scary situations.

Guns, Amo and Security:
Without a government in place we would literally have to protect ourselves, our families and our wealth. When things are not OK you are going to want an AK. Period.

My LandRover Defender:
To some people this is a very expensive truck that they would never need in this world. I got news for you, when the end of the world comes two three things will definitely survive, the cock roach, DLD and the Defender:) This truck is set up to go anywhere. It will go through deep bodies of water. It will climb over huge obstacles, it no nonsense, there is not electronics, there is no extras, there is only a truck that is made to do one thing, DEFEND. In addition, as all the other items I listed above, the Land Rover Defender never drops in value, it only appreciates.

I never buy anything that I can't flip to make more money. I will not waste money on frivolous bullshit, if I have a $1000 sitting around, it will go into commodities for survival and preservation of my self, my family and my future.

Please really take this stuff seriously! Making investments now into the above will greatly serve you if and when the world fall apart!

Mike

All sounds great though its notable that an energy crisis (i assume that's the disaster you think will happen) will not hit all countries quite as badly. Scotland for example will have 100% renewable electricity by 2020 and can export that to the rest of the UK and Europe, the Phillipenes have 40% from geo-thermal (makes sense since the islands are volcanic).

If we were to see 'peak oil' then i do agree that the densely populated countries will suffer significantly as things stand and globally there would be significant economic impacts (not many pure electric cars sold) and its also notable that Venezula has pretty huge reserves though the USA itself has huge shale gas reserves.

On the whole i think that it would get bad but not cataclysmic as some countries are streaking ahead in sustainability and other countries would start to copy them bringing about 'catch-up growth' so within 20 years the economy would be going at a pace again in a much more sustainable way.

.............

In other news i've made my prediction of 296-243 to Obama and this Hurricane seems to be making him look good so it could be more than that.

Well, i ended up upping my prediction to 303-235 but it now looks like Florida has stayed Obama so an end result of 332-206 is likely, a thrashing. Libertarians also came third with a record 1.1 million votes (New Mexico gave them 3.4% so not far off the 5% required for funding).

Congrats to Obama and lets look forward to Clinton vs Bush 2016.

Also of note is that Peurto Rico has voted in favour of becoming the 51st state (surprising how many people have no idea about that).

DLD for President! I could bring more change than a donation basket!
