L-Arginine Dosage

I was curious as to what the proper dose is for L-Arginine. I bought some at the Vitamin Shoppe and 2 pills contain a total of 1250mg of L-Arginish and 750 mg of L-Ornithine. Is this a proper dose or should I up the ante? Also, do the members here supplementing with L-Arginine also use L-Ornithine? I know that body builders always stack the 2 together, they are supposed to work synergistically.
 
3000 mg of Arginine 2-3 times a day is what most products recommend. IMHO you don't need that sort of dosage and you are really throwing away money. I like to consume a product with 3g or so of arginine while I work out to build up a pump so the nutrients from my post-workout shake would theoretically have a much higher absorbtion rate due to the excess blood flow -- as the main limiting factor to nutrient uptake would be the amount of blood entering the area. The previous statement is my personal take, and I'm not sure if any study has verified it. But thats what I do... and I've been making phenominal strength gains this year.

wow, that 6000-9000mg daily suggested? that sound like an aweful lot. i just started taking a gnc brand arginine and it recommends only using 1000mg daily, but it sounds like i'm really shorting myself on the dosage. i think i'll start taking 3 grams daily. after you take it for a while, do you have to up the dosage, or should you take a break from using it and then start using it again to continue effectiveness?
 
I would recommend cycling any sort of supplement like this. Try 8 weeks on and 4 weeks off. You should be set without increasing the dosage you start with as well.
 
You're gonna pay an arm and a leg for the GNC brand. www.bulknutrition.com has the best deal on arginine I've found. You get a pound (about 450 grams) of arginine powder for $23. I used to take 9g per day, which is about 46 cents. The pills I bought from Walgreens before I found this deal would have cost me $2.52 per day for the same dose. Or you can look at it like paying 5.1 cents per gram, or paying 28 cents per gram. Or paying $23 for a pound vs paying $127 for a pound. :D
 
wow thanks a lot cyclops, the reason i bought the gnc brand was because they were out of the much cheaper generic brand, those bastards at wal mart
