Okay, so i have kind of an odd body. I can see my top set of abs, i don't have them super clearly defined, but they're clearly visible. I can also see the outline of the V lines on my hips. However i seem to carry all my fat on my lower abs.

I'm 6 foot and about 160lbs, underweight i know, but i'm trying to bulk up. The thing is. i've been trying to gain muscle mass and lose weight at the same time but it doesn't seem to be working. I've gained a few pounds, i haven't gained fat, but i don't think i've lost any either.

I go to the gym 5 times a week now, working out one muscle group a day and doing 10 minutes of cardio which usually consists of fast walking for 2 minutes, sprinting for 30 seconds. I used to sprint for my school so i much prefer sprinting over jogging for the whole 10 minutes.

I don't really eat badly either. I usually wake up and have 4 Weetabix (not sure if they have that in America but it's not full of crap). I then usually have one scoop of Syntha 6 with one cup of oats pre-workout and then one scoop of Syntha 6 post work out. I'll then maybe have some poached eggs or a peanut butter bagel a few hours before dinner and my dinner is usually sweet potato and a grilled chicken breast, and then i might have some peanut butter or cottage cheese a bit later, and then Lean Dessert by BSN before i sleep.

I don't quite know why i'm still keeping this fat around my lower abs but it's really annoying me. Like when i set on my bed and put my elbows on my knees, my stomach overhangs my trousers, pants, underwear (whatever i'm wearing) yet the rest of me is pretty lean.

If anyone has an ideas of what i could do, i'd be very helpful. I friend of mine suggested cutting out carbs except for breakfast, i also thought about using fat burning supplements but i'm not sure how much they work.

Any advice would be really appreciated. I thought it best to post here rather than on bodybuilding websites as the transformations i've seen here are more than what any other website has seen. I've seen penis' grow, my own penis grow! I've seen people gain inches in height, and people lose weight, so i'm sure this is the better place to post.

my friend had the same problem, it took him a year to get rid of all the fat...

My wife has done some pretty amazing things with HCG. It targets fat on the body and I bet it would work. You might try a 21 day program of it but be warned, I think it's a 500 calorie/day diet. But I know you can lose about 1 1b per day.

What professionals suggest is that you bulk up and not do as much cardio. This gives you more breathing room for building muscle. Then after that you start cutting and doing more cardio. I suggest you not worry about putting on more fat, and go to the gym 3-4 times a week with low reps to avoid muscle exhaustion. After you put on enough muscle, you're gonna want to do more cardio like 30 minutes to an hour of intense workout. Personally, I'm doing the Insanity Workout which involves High Interval Training, and it will suck the fat right out of you, exposing the muscle you've been working on all this time. Good luck!

500 calorie, steroid diet... That's over 2000 calories less than what i eat now. Not sure how much good that would do really.

Bapify, why should i try and avoid muscle exhaustion? The thing is, if i bulk now, won't i just add on more fat? Unless i do a super clean bulk?

I just looked up the Insanity Workout, it seems interesting and i'd love to try it, but do i have to do it in front of the TV or computer? Can i just use the stuff he does and do it at the gym?

As long as you workout with the same intensity, you should be fine. The workouts are roughly 45 minutes long. One way you can judge if you've done it right is if you're drenched in sweat. If you're not sweating like a pig, you're doing it wrong. LOL.

Muscle burns fat, that's simple, it's also why just about every guy on Earth bulks first and cuts after.

It's also one of the main reasons you should separate your building and cutting phases, basically, if you attempt to combine them you're asking your body to do two almost opposite things at once. You can do it, but it takes one hell of a workout, one hell of a diet and one hell of a comittment. Most average working guys just don't have the resources needed.

You really can't target fat loss; but you can push it around at will. If you're pretty much OK with the rest of your body (or it's progress) then you can hit those lower abs like this:
1. Plastic wrap, just like you'd wrap leftovers with
2. Preparation H, Yep "The 'Roid Creme"
3. Neoprene sweat belt, about 10-15 bucks at any sporting goods store.

Before bed rub the ol' roid creme onto yer belly, Saran wrap that shit two or three times around then cinch that neoprene belt nice and snug. Not too tight, you still wanna breathe; should feel like a willing pussy all 'round yer middle.

Try that for about two weeks and let us know how ya feel.
Guys in the srevice have used this to make bodyfat measurements for years.

Now, don't neglect any of your other workout components; this is an adjunct, not a replacement.

I get what you're saying to do, but i don't quite get what it's going to do, Max?

It's a temporary procedure right? I just lose waterweight and then it comes back as soon as i drink anything?

If you're trying to bulk up, eat a ton of calories and do compound movements & little isometric movements. That's how I gained alot of bulk. I'm now almost done with my fifth month and will be going for a cut soon.

You cut some water, but mostly re-distribute the fat you can't seem to get rid of. If your goal is to expose those lower abs; this'll get it done.

Everytime I heard sweat belts mentioned before they were referred to as Bullshit. Are you sure about this? Any article / book you could reference?

Put one on, you'll sweat. Where's the bullshit?

It's not called a whiten-yer-teeth, fatten-yer-wallet, enlarge-yer-cock and solve-all-yer-problems-for-you belt.

I don't quite get how fat will get re-distributed from it but hey, i'll try it.

I also downloaded the Insanity Fast and Furious workout. I'll probably do that in the morning when i wake up, about 9am and then got to the gym about 3pm. Hopefully those two combined is just gonna suck fat off. I really like the Insanity workout. It looks really good. It looks much more beneficial than jogging on a treadmill or working on the cross trainer.

fine, keep ignoring me. I'll stick with the there is no directed fat loss approach.

Okay i just finished my first Insanity workout. I started with day one, the fit test, and i threw up.

I go to the gym most days, 4 or 5 times a week. I do some interval training as a warm up and then weights. This workout is harder than both combined, and that was just the fit test. I guess it put me in perspective of where I am fitness wise. It spurs you on but it's a reality check. I honestly thought the last thing i'd do is throw up. I'm now off for a light arms session at the gym and then i'm gonna come home and crash.

Thanks to bapify for showing me Insanity.

After diggin' around on the good ol' internet I found out that back in about '05-'06 the FDA caught wind of Prep H being used for just this purpose and "CONVINCED" the manufacturer to replace the active ingredient, Bio-dyne, which made this effective. Apparently, the Canadian formulation, though, still contains this. So, unless ya live in Canada, or damn close to the border and got extra time on yer hands, the Prep H option looks to be old news.

Also, the ingredient used as a replacment is a vascoconstrictor, so it may tighten up your skin a bit, but that probably about it.
Sorry, man.

Ah. Well i'm off to New York in 17 days, do you think that's close enough to the Canada boarder?

I just hit the gym and after throwing up earlier i thought 'I'll go easy'. Now, this may sound stupid, but i put a song on in the locker room and i just snapped. I just blew through fucking everything. It was an arm day and everything seemed easy. I even added 10kg to my underhand grip bicep pulldowns. I felt incredible. I came home and sang the song over and over while i hit BTCs and downward stretches in the shower. I feel so hyped up.

And then there was a girl but i'll post it in another thread ;)

I'm so fucking motivated right now. I'm so motivated i might just cut my stomach off with a kitchen knife while i cook this chicken. I'm also motivated to get a big ole dick.

No problem bro lol the first time I did Insanity, I thought I was gonna faint!

Too much blood to the brain?

Yeah I was pretty much bent over in the shower hoping I wouldn't faint. I felt buzzed, most likely a result of too much blood.

I didn't mean to double post, i just clicked post and nothing happened so i clicked it again.

Hmmm. We'll i'm probably gonna start eating that line of things anyway. I already eat my meat, but i just eat stuff like bagels which isn't the best. We will see, insanity + the right diet + weights sessions 4-5 times a week should bring the fat off nicely.

Recomend you do some reading and research. As far as I'm concerned the only diet and training advice I've ever listened to and applied has come with scientific knowledge and proof. Check out some books on amazon. For info on body building training and bulking check out any books from Mike Mentzer and/or Dorian Yates. As far as nutrition goes, well it can be a bit over complicated unless you're a serious bodybuilder willing to calculate all calorie, carb and protein intakes - check out The Abs Diet by David Zinczenko for info on what you should be eating for quality muscle gain and fat loss.

Hope thats been of some use

Cheers doc, i'll look into it.

I've not eaten many carbs at all the past few days except breakfast and i feel a lot... tighter and cleaner. I'll probably keep this up for the next week or two and see how i feel.

I'd recommend doing your cardio in the morning before u eat. 30 mins of fat burning cardio, keeping ur heart around 120-130 bps. This is exactly what professional bodybuilders do when they are cutting. You don't need to be doing this insanity workout but keep up with the weights. This plastic wrap thing is the biggest load of shit i ever heard. You're diet's not bad but 4 weetabix? I weigh 200 lbs and i only have 2 weetabix with my 6 eggs. Take a banana with ur syntha 6 post workout to help restore glycogen in ur muscles. I also have the little bit of fat on the end of my stomach and it's usually the last bit of fat to go. Just takes time and lots of fat burning cardio.

Haha, what's wrong with Weetabix? Do you eat the yolk of the 6 eggs!? I'll take the cardio before i eat bit onboard for sure and the banana, got it. Thanks a bunch, cel.

Weetabix is fine. Are u eating 4 of the full sized ones? That's way too much for a 160lb person. I eat 3 whole eggs and 3 whites.
