Hi all I'm at a bit of a loose end at the moment. A girl who I dated around 3 years ago has become single all of a sudden and I'd really like to try and get in touch with her, because I made a huge mistake not taking things further with her. I think I only have one shot at this so I need to take the right approach, any advice guys?

First off. I know this is an old thread. I just thought I would give my perspective on things.

I would be careful getting back with your ex. Are you sure your penis aren't running the show? An ex is an ex for a reason. Never chase a woman. There are many women out there...why do you need this one? Doesn't sound like you have moved on with your life after the breakup. The most attractive thing for a woman is a driven man on his purpose, who do not are stuck in his past. You should have set up your life now, so she will chase you instead.

A woman should get into your frame/your life not the other way around. If you need to chase, it's the wrong social dynamics going on. You can show interest but you should never chase. If a woman let you chase for to long...she's not interested, or she's playing games and use you as her source of validation. Run away from these women.

You should be content being on your own and alone in your life, and a woman will then come into your life and compliment it. This is the key element to not show neediness. Neediness a women interpreters as weaknesses. A man should lead, not the other way around. A woman want a strong and driven man.

You should set up your life so women will chase you.

This was not related into this specific situation, just some thoughts on social dynamics between women and men.

I have an ex in my life that drags me down. I can't help her any longer... She only deals with me when she needs help. She have it rough, but it's her life and not mine. I care for her, but I can't help her the rest of my life. I'm pulling away from her...

I will follow your guidance.
I believe this "relationship" with this woman, have held me back from starting a new relationship, and my new life. There have also been so many opportunities, that I didn't take due to this I believe.

all good advice, but I'll add one thing:

get yourself in the mindset of being the leader/decision maker (it doesn't matter about what) just so she knows you're running the show. the last thing she wants to hear is 'sure babe, wherever/whatever you want', so don't be afraid to be yourself and be a man (our society has essentially 'shamed' the masculinity right out of the man) which means lead her where she knows she wants to go

I agree. I always take the lead and call the shots. When going on a date with any woman, I always pick the location and what needs to be bought and talking about buying something, that's if I'm the one who initiated the date.
