a question about weight loss and beer !!!!!!

im desperate to lose 21lb .... my intake of calories is between 1500 and 1700 per day ...i exercise everyday (aerobic)mainly walking and i aslo spend 30 minutes on my gravity walker....i seem to lose weight quite easily while following this but like most people i enjoy going out and having a few beers,but the weight seems to go on so easily when hitting the beer,and i know about the fact that alcohol is burnt as energy before fat cells...the fact is is there anyway i can lose weight and drink beer... i really dont want to give up my social life and i cant goto the pub and not drink, also i dont like spirits or wine...any help really appreciated,i just want to know if i can maintain weight loss and still enjoy a few jars...i used to go drinking and not eat thinking it would be fewer calories but i now know that all i was doing was putting my body into starvation mode....damn if only they made non fattening beer ... i dont drink at home so i cant drink the low carb stuff so i stick to fosters if i am going to drink,sorry for the ramble but its so tough losing weight and maintainning a social life

you kidding me I get ripped outta my mind on fridays and saturdays and then the following monday I actually weight less then i did on friday with no muscle loss what so ever. I think what it comes down to is tricking your body. From M-F you should be on a strict diet and then just set up cheat days on the weekend, but do try to very it up adapation is our worst enemey. And I am sure you are already doing this but do liftng and cardio. This was incredibly vague so if you need any more advice or if you want me to expand on anything please let me know. i used to lift years ago and went from a skinny kid to being very muscular,then i stopped and the weight went on im not what you would call fat but to hit my ideal weight i need to lose those pounds....i did used to drink nearly everyday so maybe that was the problem,but ive since decided to cut down,so maybe sticking to having 2 nights out a week might actually work as long as i keep up the cardio.....

I read somewhere that your body metabolizes alcohol straight to fat, so that for every 16 oz of pure alcohol, you gain 1 lb of body fat. 16 oz of pure alcohol is the equivalent of about a 24 pack. This also doesn't take into account the extra calories that beer holds.

I drank like crazy in the fall. Through 1.5 months of exercise (averaging only 20 minutes a day of aerobic), I've lost 12 pounds with significantly more muscle than before. Staying sober makes this transition significantly easier.

It's like ejaculation and its effects on Penis Enlargement. It depends on how much you want it.
 
I am a rather unexperienced drinker, but maybe selecting a less "hefty" beer could benefit you. I know that sounds bad, I loves me some red tail ale, but if it gives you the same buzz with less calories, why not? Then again, my experience with light beers is minimal. Maybe we can both learn by it.
 
well if you drink to get drunk then light beer saves you no cals, light beer=less alcohol. need to drink more light beer to get ripped.
 
Some studies I've read claim that alcohol blocks the release of somatotropin (growth hormone). Growth hormone is supposedly the bodies most powerful fat burning hormone. I don't think calories play into the fat gain equation, but that it is a hormonal situation.

Beer is made from hops. Hops are probably the most potent naturally occuring estrogen you can consume. Ever hear of "brewers droop".

But then again I've read that a small amount of alcohol stimulates an increase in test production via the adrenals. Test and growth hormone work together, when one goes up, so does the other and vice versa. ?:(
 
im not reall;y a real ale person,and i dont touch top shelf (spirits) or wine,i mainly stick to fosters which contains ab out 150 cals per pint...i also think that its not so much the calories in beer but rather the fact that alcohol is burned as energy before fat cells....
 
monday to friday i dont touch the drink i used to but gave that up as apart from the health consequences it costs alot of money,so now i will have say 6 pints on a friday 5 pints on a saturday and if im in the mood i will have about 5 on sunday,but sundays i will have a 30 minute workout in the morning
