One of the best matches I've seen in a long time. Great performance by England specially Joe Cole. + a (let's admit it) spectacular goal by Omar Pouso.

Fantastic match. :)

P.s. sorry to all those non football lovers out there for wasting your time reading this.

England played alright against Uruguay but I wasnt impressed with the defence as Rio Ferdinand wasnt doing his best and we had a injury to Bridges whos a classy Left Back. England werent at their strongest in the defece so expect a MUCH harder side in the next matches ahead. I think England have it all to win the world cup. Great Keeper, tough strong defence, superb midfield I mean look - Beckham, Gerrard, Cole and Lampard ... WORLD CLASS and our strikers, Rooney and Own ... they will cut a defence open.

I wouldn't say it was a great performance by England. They did much better towards the end but if they want any chance of getting far in the world cup they are going to have to do a lot better.

I thought the performance was very impressive. Our possession throughout the game was dominating. It's a shame that Ferdinand played badly but we all know what he is capable of.

I agree Red our team is very good. Our midfield is superb and with Rooney and Owen being fed by Beckham and Lampard not to mention their own scoring abilities. We are in the best shape we've been in for a long time.

I wonder if Sven would still leave if we ended up wining the world cup. I know it's still a long shot but I think it's within our ability as long as we continue to play well.

What really impressed me the other night was the way that we kept the pressure on even when we went 1 nil down. We deserved to win and Joe Cole deserved to get the winner. Bring on the world cup. :)

Yep bring it on. I hope Sven also stays as I think he has been a GREAT manager for England and really got the younger players into the side nice and gently which no other manager in my lifetime ever managed to do and always stuck with the old donkeys [no disrespect to the old players] such as Adamas, batty, Ince, Keown, Seamen etc etc and it was the same old donkeys for years when they had actually gone over the hill managers still chose them. Sven came along and had balls to choose new players and give them chances and IMHO this is why England have such a good team now and on the day with that team than not even fucking Brazil will beat us because England has the dogged fighting spirit that no fancy footwork can spoil.

World Cup 2006 is comming back to England where it belongs.
It'll be FORTY YEARS this year when we won it last .... its time.

Good point there about Sven. He's transformed our team IMO.

This one's ours!! It's coming home.

From my understanding it was a 2 - 1 win at HOME versus a team that isnt even in the world cup (Thanks to my Great Australian soccer roos ;) ) So how could that be an impressive win? and how could some people say they have a very good chance to win it all? I think it will either be Brazil or Germany. England would have to beat them both to win it and that wont be easy at all.

i keep forgetting theres people on here that like football ... u know, the game u use ur foot with for most of the time, not gridiorn or aussie rules or rugby union or league.

can of worms .....

My second team is england (was born there, left when two yo), but i must admit the most fun ive had watching a game was when the socceroos beat the pants off of u guys.
I hope we meet in the world cup finals because Id really fancy us.. theres something about the english imo that makes them afraid of aussie sportsmen.

Dont mention the ashes btw, we will murder u over here nex year, it shows that england have improved but when england play out of their skin in an ashes series and the aussies play absolute shite compared to their usual standard, ie gillespie being dropped, mcgrath worrying about wife with cancer, hayden and langer not performing etc etc and they only just edge it due to crap weather on the final day proves my point.
You were also very fortunate with coin tosses with regard to weather and swinging conditions.
Have you guys won a game since we lost the ashes to u btw?
Add into the mix the fact we will be using our cricket balls on our pitches with a young lad called shaun tait entering the mix, it will be 4-0 with one draw.
You read it here pples.

rant over ;p

Hold on a minute. Do you remember that little incident of us beating you in the Rugby world cup final recently not to mention the ashes (please stop it with the excuses, it's killing me).

OK, our record is not that great in cricket or rugby since those events but it seems to me that we've had the best of the results recently. Maybe it's the Aussies that are afraid of us since we seem to be losing to everyone else. :)
Just kidding.

I must admit that Aussies are great sportsmen and I love watching you guys play whatever sport since your nation has a great sporting heritage. Our two nations also seem to have a mutual respect in sporting events and that is part of the reason I like watching us play you.

Uruguay are actually an excellent football team and we played well in many respects. I think we have a better chance than for a long time of winning this year but I still admit that it would be very hard and quite a long shot.

That said.

IT'S COMING HOME!!!

Exactly said Tom .... Uruguay aint a bad team and anyone who says they are well get looking at football more often before they talk bad of them. They have some great players such as Recoba, Forlan, Dario Silva. The game wasnt great to me, England could do much more better.

Germany havent got a good team IMHO and its too young and not as strong as it could be but they will ALWAYS be a threat as they are very strong and gritty team with a Iron will to always win.

The Aussies have some brilliant players and I hope they do well but I dont think they've got a cat in hells chance of winning the world cup.

Finally many of us ENGLISH feel we have a great chance to win for a number of reasons and one of those is the MASSIVE win against Argentina in a recent freindly. I think it was 3.2 with two late goals and Argentina had a strong side and are amongst the fav's to win the world cup.

I WORRY about Englands depth .... our reserves and subs aint as good like the main team. Players like Bent and Defoe although they are good players they aint like Rooney and Owen but I feel deepdown for some reasons that they will dig deep and find it in themselves to make it happen .... they do for club so its time to do it for country ..... this is the time for England to win we have some GREAT FORM and a GREAT team for many years, a GREAT manager with GREAT tactics. Confidence is higher than it has been for years

I'm not even patriotic or proud to be British but when the Rugby or Football comps come round I get going.

now ive got my wind up finished......

back to football, i really hope england and aus meet, it would be a great game that id enjoy thoroughly.
For englands sake, they need to get rid of beckham as captain. The man is a mental midget. Sure he can cross a ball like no one else but that doesnt make a great captain.
I think terry, gerrard, lampard would make far better captains, not to mention the sentiment that i hold regarding national captaincy shouldnt be awarded to a player that doesnt even captain his club.
England have a real shot at this worldcup, they just need to get a decent draw and hope to beat brazil when they meet them and not have bloody david seaman in goals, like last world cup.
Also, why scott parker hasnt been given a run yet is beyond me, he is shear class and is the defensive midfielder england needs.
BTW im a nufc supporter if u hadnt worked it out already.

LMAO Beckham to me is a good captain for England, he isnt like the Aggresive captain but you dont need to do that. He NEVER gives in and is VERY DETERMINED and just is everywhere on the pitch so to me he inspires many players and this has been said. I would agree with your other choices such as Gerrard and Terry ... but they are more Aggression driven but thats not a negative thing, just that Beckham operates his captancy different ... thats how I see it.

David Seaman ... he has retired mate and he was a damn fine keeper in his day but made a sili mistake against Brazil in the last world cup which seems many idiots have made stick with him. Robinson our current keeper is class.

I hope we meet Brazil soon after the groups and whip their arse and than hopefulyl meet you aussies and whip your arse :)

LOL, im a huge fan of the english game, and know that seaman had retired. He was a great keeper but must still be held accountable for that calamity in the loss to brazil. Robinson is a fantastic prospect, i watched him in his leeds days and he is quality. Hopefully he can handle the pressure "when" england make it to the quarters... hopefully.
I think its pretty obvoius who england will play up front and in defense, but who would u have across midfield?
I'm hoping its not both lampard and gerrard because they are too similar. Sven has tried King as a defensive midfielder... why not give parker a go? He is holding newcastle together atm and is a great defensive midifelder.
