when it happened, i got twitching in my chest and tricep coupled with a shit load of pain and a complete loss of contraction potential. i still have full range of movement, and it only seems to affect my pushing ability of my left arm. tried to lift a machine
weight of 10kg the other day just with my left arm and it was difficult! (bench press). it seems to be getting slightly better, although i still cant do a push up - it feels like the muscle is not responding i.e not contracting when i want it to...
Something like this happened to me about 7 years ago near my neck and shoulder. The specifics of my injury have not been diagnosed despite going to chiroprators, orthopedics, sports med, neuro surgeon, alexander technique, physical therapy with specific stretching and
weights exercises and getting x-rays, MRI and probably some more. It seems my injury never healed properly but my body has compensated very well because I can do everything I could before and I'm still a tough SOB but my neck is more fragile and more prone to injury and self dislocation if I do not stay loose, stretch exercise etc. Since nobody can figure out exactly what went wrong and I can do everything I could before albeit with odd cramps, pain and twitching at times though usually on a very minor
scale with rare peaks of pain, nobody wants to open me up for surgical inspection and repair and though I used to really want that I'm not sure that I do anymore.
I go to a chiropractor anywhere from 1-4 times a month depending on how I'm feeling to keep things in check and if I don't I am more prone to neck cramps, neck "lock ups" and pain in general because it seems my spine is not being stabilized properly because of whatever happened during my injury. I didn't go the the chiropractor for years and I can definitely feel a difference and my recent xrays from when I recently started going again proved it. Most people don't realize any of this though and I look like your typical athlete. The only way anyone can tell is I have minor asymmetry upon careful inspection near my neck/shoulder.
My inury happened about 7 years ago. At first everything seemed fine, then the atrophy from whatever I injured deteriorated into mass asymmetry over the next few months, then I rehabbed with physical therapy and self training a lot and in about a year I was really close to symmetrical again to the point where I am now where nobody usually notices unless they really look for it after I tell them. But, I am stronger than I ever was and can still do everything as good or better with only occasional and random pain depending on how my body is aligned and warmed up that day. I can even do push ups from a head-stand position, so I'm grateful. Injuries can really make you appreciate the enjoyment and fragility of life and the human body.
Yours may not be permanent, but if it is then consider all the things you can still do and that you aren't alone.
Do you mind describing what was honestly happening when you "trapped a nerve in your neck" or at least what you body was doing? Tell me by PM if you don't want to in public.
I actually physically pulled my neck too far forward with my hands clinched behind my head. My trapezius muscles were really tight from stress and I was trying to relieve the tension by "adjusting" myself and I just pulled too hard. The drugs I was on didn't help with my feeling or judgement.
You can go through all the medical crap that I went through if you want and maybe you'll get better results or maybe your body will repair itself completely. But, I'd first suggest the chiropractor and somebody who can test your nerves with this device that actually makes the sound of nerve firing audible - which I only found through a sports med physician. The sports med physicians seem to have some little tricks and tools that many other physicians don't base on my experience and they seem to have a superior understand one how the body really functions as a whole.
Let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to PM me. Take care.
