I stumbled over a video a few days ago and it really shocked me. I personally don't have a facebook account, because I'm simply against the philosophy of the leaders of this website. To give you an example, there was a Greek doctor who founded a group in facebook. This group was actually made to collect donations for the victims in Palestine and to inform people about the actions there. Well, after only a week this group had 120.000 followers (dunno how this is called in facebook, maybe "Likes" or smth like that). Note that the author of the group didn't even mention anything antisemitic, he only criticized the actions of the Israelis because he knew what happened there. Anyway, the group got locked and the user profile of this doctor got locked. Not deleted, only locked, so that all the data that he posted on facebook stays there forever. To clarify what that means, if this doctor someday wants to participate in politics, it is 100% sure that someone searches him on facebook. Because of the fact that his "dirty" data is still there, this somebody will distribute his information and so there won't be any chances for the doctor to achieve his target. Thanks to facebook.
I'm not antisemitic, I'm just wondering what the fuck is going on there and this website has over 500.000.000 USERS !!! I mean come on guys, WAKE UP! It may sound a bit melodramatic, but facebook is actually a tool to control people, and the result of it is also a lot of money.
I'm actually so pissed about this topic because I have my fellows trying to convince me all the time that I should make a facebook account and 50% of their private life is lived in facebook. Of course all of this is supported by the media "facebook is so practical", "facebook makes intelligent" and all kind of bullshit I hear and read about the mentioned website. I think Facebook and other similar sites such as My space but more so with Facebook have become so huge over the years they now have an 'occult' status, in that they seem to control peoples data. The privacy policy changes regularly and you need to know legal jargon to understand some of it. As well as this when you want your account terminating, like I do, Facebook actually don't remove it 100% from the database, in-case you want to comeback! All it takes is for you to log in again and da da your back!

Facebook has become too powerful and it needs to stop. FAR TOO MUCH information is cached within, stored for whoever to see. This can be a double edged sword for good and bad. Example being terrorists who use it, which they most often don't but if they do the convo's can be tracked with ease and the same said with filth who mess with kids. Downside is that you could post something on an ex's wall like ''You bitch I hate you'' and it ends up escalating to a point that someone either gets a smack in the mouth, arrested or losses their job.

And yeah nowadays everyone makes a slip, but the best thing to do is to stick to your principles and not let some employer indirectly tell you that they decided to go with someone else because you gave a strong opinion in your status updates.

On another note, If people stopped being so judgmental all the time we wouldn't think of frozen accounts as "dirty data". If people had backbones and confronted others about the data they "gathered" like stalkers, we could make more informed decisions about the details of one's life if we really wanted to know who someone was. Call me paranoid if you want but DO NOT have a facebook account nor any other social network for that matter...and i don't have ANYTHING to hide either.

I believe people are just asking for trouble by just dropping every little thing they do, buy, think or whatever all over the internet.

All that data can ( and is ) used buy less scrupulous people to actually bad intent. Thieves can find out if you are at home, on vacation, in a club or disco, a bar or even at the cinema cause people just pour that kind of info in there for anyone to read. They WILL know your habits, your places of interest, your preferences at every level and WILL use this data against you if they want.

Also, i consider it to be some kind of database for employers and governments alike to control you or even to just "rate" you in some shady way for their gain.

It can destroy relationships, marriages and even be misinterpreted by anyone leading to bad things altogether.

I choose to be the odd one out, not because i have skeletons in my closet, but because i choose to remain private in my life and life choices.

Love the outdoors too much to be wasting time behind a screen typing away WHILE NOT enjoying real life as opposed to cyber-life.

Some will state that it is a sure way to get sex...i say get out of the house and you shall find it EVERYWHERE, that's how a real man would do it, get yourself out there, expose yourself ( in a limited way ) but enjoy the REAL life all around us OUTSIDE the house...

The website actually urges you to enter your true information, as they kinda advertise with "finding lost friends" and how should someone find a lost friend if there were only false information? The more I read about this website the more I understand that this is just a spy website. And this happens in the 21st century. So Adobe makes money off the trial by pushing an Akamai program into your machine. Then Akamai makes money tracking and categorizing you for advertisers. What's really disgusting about most of these companies is that these are often Liberal-minded people who will be the first to bitch about government intrustion, but don't mind fucking you in the ass if it fattens their wallet.

I dont use any social networking any-more. Use software like PeerGuardian or IP blockers that use lists of IPs that update often of such companies like Akamai who I have heard about and than when they try to suBathmateit a connection in or out of your machine it gets blocked. Its like I have already mentioned in another thread on using the standard ISP DNS on your machine, which is a big mistake as they are nearly always slower, buggy and can spy on you much easier than configuring it yourself to a DNS server you wish to use.

I used to use the hosts file but it became allot of messing about and once it gets to a certain size can decrease the speed of the connection as it needs to check from that. Using another DNS server leapfrogs it all anyway. If you use a good one and I mention many in a thread in this section on them, you will be protected from the shit trojan sites, fraud sites etc already without needing to play with the hosts file.

Glad you brought it up though because I got about 4 links somewhere with lists people update on the web all the time that I'll post here along with free software from Blue tack Internet Solutions which organises your hosts file like a dream.

My advice though is only use it for small things and do change your default ISP DNS, even with the hosts modifications the ISP has all the search queries running through their DNS banks. measures it looks like lets say your surfing a secured site

In my opinion Facebook represents a place where connections are made for people who no longer can relate to the real world A connection is a connection regardless if it is Facebook, face to face or plugging into a wall...a connection is a way for 2 or more sources to be in one place at the same time and exchange information. They never needed Facebook or Face to Face, the connection can be made in millions of other ways. I personally use Facebook to check up on my Children, look for bits of irrelevant news to waste some time and post pictures of my artwork so it is in one place. The information is in me, it is only when I make a connection that I can exchange it, the connection matters little what matters is that it is made. Without a place to plug a computer or plug in a battery our connections seem to be limited but in reality they can still connect, they just need to be more creative and think more like a human than a electrical signal. There is a time and place for socializing online but when it becomes an addiction it gets sick. I spend my time online doing one thing, working to help everyone I can become more aware and more empowered. I would love a world that connects people to people in the real sense but the internet is making this less and less important and eventually, when something is not used it becomes obsolete.
