Questions on Edging

When edging what is the proper approach? Should i keep going till i cum but hold a strong kegel to hold it in? or should i keep going till i feel like im about to cum but stop hence not needing the kegel?
Also how many people have had success styaing up longer by edging? This is my main concern, lasting longer
