I didn't find a better place to put this, and figured it's "deep" enough to put in this section The following was posted in redzulu's thread about avatars, so I'm moving it here...

I love Fear of the dark. Esp the title song, afraid to shoot strangers, etc. Bruce dickinson's vocals r awesome! But their recent albums are not comparable. Checkout Opeth. It's a very creative death/doom metal band. In terms of composition and variation, there's nothhing like it!

From the older bands like Deep purple, Ledzep, Sabbath, Judas priest, Jethro tull, Doors, Floyd, Hendrix, Yes, Van Halen, Rush & other semi oldies. But the recent ones are great. In classic rock have you heard -
Dream Theater, Liquid tension experiment (instrumental only), Night Wish, Sonata Arctica? DT is THE ULTIMATE in progressive metal!!

If you like guitarists of the type Satriani. checkout Vinnie Moore, Yngwei Malmsteen. They are gods as compared to Satriani! I like Paco De Lucia and Al Dimeola, but they are classical guitarists (not rock)

In death metal I like Opeth (more of doom), Arch Enemy, In Flames(again more doom metal). Nile is a little too harsh for me so are Cryptopsy, Mastodon, Dying Foetus.
In black metal I love Cradle of Filth (rocks). Dimu borgir is ok. Candle Mass is great (not a pure black metal band)

I am into Thrash, Black and Heavy but mainly Death Metal.

Check out Cannibal Corpse! Brutal Death Metal and Corpsegrinder (The Vocalist) is amazing. Cryptopsy are also insane but with Lord Worm as their vocalist.

Some of the bands I listen to are Manowar, Led Zeppelin, Pantera, (Old) Metallica, Naplam Death, Slayer, Cradle Of Filth, Aborted, Gorerotted, Megadeth, S.O.D etc.

Also LOVE Michael Jackson but I don't think he goes here

I really like Music you can get your head into and just forget about everything around you and all your shitty problems, stuff like Early Metallica, Pantera, Megadeath. I love music with Emotion and I feel Metal is just that.

My favorite metal band is probably Chimaira.

Other bands I like are Switched, Killswitch Engage, 36 Crazyfists, Electric Hellfire Club, Helmet, Megadeth, Machine Head, Sevendust, Tool, Staind (their older stuff), Taproot (Gift-era stuff), and Type O Negative.

Granted, all of those bands may not be considered precisely Metal, but I figure they're close enough.

I play guitar so I love those old thrashy sounding bands like 1980's Metallica and Megadeth. The guitar is so fast and thrashy its like a seperate genre of music, not punk and not death metal but in-between

Yngwie Malmsteen is a guitar god from Sveden. Download some his videos like Arpeggios from Hell and Blitzkreig because they are crazy fast. I got my vids from Kazaa. Another guitar god that might be even better than Yngwie is Jason Becker. I just recently found out about him and he is a speed demon. Download a video called Paganini's 5th Caprice or Serrana Arpeggios. I've never seen anything like it before.

This concert is in Nashville, TN. First heard about it when one of my friends, brother's friends said he couldn't find anyone to go with. Well, I'll have to change that! Here are some other good Rainbow songs:

Actually, just about all of them are good, my friend and I just bought all of their CDs off ebay for $60. Not bad for like 13 or so CDs.

I'm also in to hair metal and anything with cool screams in it (Halford screams mind you), you should also have a listen to Iced Earth. They're my favorite band at the moment. Second would be good Savatage (Hall of the Mountain King, and Streets era). There's also Firehouse, Guns n' Roses, W.A.S.P., Ozzy Osbourne, Warrant, Black Label Society (Zakk Wylde), Skid Row and the solo albums by their singer (Sebastian Bach), Dokken, Cinderella, Accept, Metallica, Slaughter, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Dio, Def Leppard (Pyromania), Tesla, XYZ, Scorpions. My God so many others!

I'm also into progressive metal.. Stratovarius, Dream Theater, RAGE, Sinergy, Symphony X, Angel Dust, Evergrey, Hammerfall etc.. I could list hundreds and hundreds of bands, but that wouldn't keep the interest would it?

For the older stuff I like, some Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Rainbow, a little bit of REO Speedwagon (Ridin' the Storm Out), Blackfoot etc..

There's just so many to name, music is a HUGE part of my life. I play guitar and am now singing a little bit. Practicing the Halford/Tim Owens screams mind you.

itselectric I've listened to a few numbers from Stratovatrious, Symphony X, Fates warning, Porcupine tree (good). But do you have any particular favorites? I don't seem to remember the names and discarded the downloads. But IMO Dream theater RULES, esp LTE, nothing like it across all band spectrums & across all times!!

Redzulu, good that you pitched in Morbid Angel. I love esp "God of emptiness". Anyone heard Shape of Despair? It's doom metal, kinda drags but it's unique. Death metal is too rough/unmusical to me (unless you count Opeth into death metal). But I like "Unas slayer of the Gods" by Nile:O

I like a few songs by Angra (the softer ones, cause when they try to be heavy it still sounds soft.) As far as stuff like that though, try to download some RAGE (if you can find it.. It took me a little while to on Kazaa, I love their guitarist, he's awesome.) Here's a band for you, if you like good screaming, Primal Fear. Also some Shadow's Fall is good. They're more of a doom metal band. Oh also get some Sinergy (woman singer) they're awesome. These bands should keep you content for a few days.
