Measuring tape longer than ruler!?

After measuring my girth and arms with a tape, I was a little disapointed. I was barely over 5" girth ( my "natural" size). Out of curiousity, I just laid the tape on a ruler and it comes out about 1/8" of an inch longer. It appears to all be within the first inch.

I know my ruler has a 1/8" start before the Zero" line. The tape has a little metal thing on the end, so I guess apparently even the tape has a starting point before zero. Except that the ruler Zero is marked, but I guess not on the tape. All the other inches seem to match up,so I guess after 1", both inch increments are equal. Just weird I guess because I never noticed on a tape. Now I guess I have to add a 1/8" to all my body girths as well as my length!

It is amazing when this happens because you go from pissed to happy in seconds flat. Nothing "really" changed but just knowing there was a measuring error can be a HUGE inspiration (or depression if it goes the other way :O) CONGRATS on the increase:)

Yeah, I've noticed this, too. I always wondered why I got a different girth measurement with, say, a shoelace (lined up against a ruler) than with a measuring tape. I suppose I am actually 5.4" midshaft. :)
