LASIK eye surgery

Hey guys im turning 19 this year and I am nearsighted .. -2.0 on both eyes..
it is really bothering me.. i get low selfesteem by not being able to recognice people in the streets and things like that.. everybody says im ignoring them, but im not! I can't wear contact, because i cant get them in my eyes.. and i really dont like using glasses.. so I have been reading about lasik eye surgery.

has anyone here got this surgery? or perhaps thought about getting it?
I would like to hear your opinions on this
thanks

I have and am still considering it. I have spoken to several people I personally know who have had this done, and they all seemed happy with the results. I have not had it done mainly because I have not had the $$ yet. I have also heard that you should ideally wait untill youre around 25 years old or so because you eyes are supposedly less likely to change drastically vision-wise after that age. Whether that is true or not, I dont know. Your best bet as always with any medical issues, is to ask a professional, someone who performs this type of procedure. Rather than asking anonymous strangers on a forum who may or may not know exactly what they are saying ;)

I had the surgery done by a very experienced eye specialist. It was expensive, approx. $3,000. It worked! I was nearsighted with astigmatism, and now I have 20/20 vision. Before I wore bifocals, and now I carry a pair of reading glasses, the cheap kind you can buy at an Osco, that I put on when I want to read something. The reading glasses don't bother me because it is one hell of lot better than wearing glasses for everything. Why did I go to surgeon and spend all of that money? I was real uncomfortable with the idea of going to one of these places that advertise cheap prices. Afterall it's your eyes! I am completely happy with the work and I love having 20/20 vision. I asked the surgeon about my kids and he told me that he wouldn't perform the lasix on anyone under 25. He said the eye is still changing and there is no guarantee that the changes will not undue the surgery. Wait until you are 25, the technique will just improve. Not everyone gets 20/20, about 20% do not. In another five years I bet the odds of 20/20 improve.

Hey turtlechan, I wanted to ask you, and prince Albert regarding his wife, if you have had any problems with seeing halos around lights at night. I've heard it's a common problem with the procedure and I just wondered how bad it effects things.

The guy who did the treatment went through every risk and possible outcomes of the surgery before my wife had hers done,he said halo's were a possibility but she has never had any problems so far.

halo's are a risk but I never had a problem with them. My doc warned me that they were possible, but they never happened.

Hey Guys, I had that surgery done 12 years ago when they did it with a knife and called it radial corotonemy or spelled something like that. I could not see beyond 3 feet. Now I can see my feet when I shower and at a distance, I have 20/20 visioin. I have use reading glasses but that is nothing compared to what I used to wear. Like Turtlechan, I can buy cheap glasses at the dollar store and get along wonderfully. I reccomend it very much. GS
