If I can't remain semi erect doing ssj the whole time does that mean I need to work on getting better EQ?

No not at all, it's no easy task, obv key is your clamping at the base to help keep blood in, I throw Jelqs in between SSJ's to help maintain it a bit
 
So if I start out at 100 % and subside to 90% what should I do to stay at 90% when I'm doing ssj? Right now it's hard for me to stay at 90% for 5 mins.

90% for five minutes is perfect. After that pump for five minutes and then start another SSJ session for five minutes. Then do this again. This is the most effective way to gain girth. To better understand this routine please read through the 5×5×3 that can be found in the SRT to thread.

When doing SSJ, should we do kegels or reverse kegels throughout?
 
Sliding the blood from the base during SSJ wouldn’t that take away the emphasis on the base? Most the pressure I feel from the exercise is in the the med to upper shaft area. Will it also thicken the base?

You can experiment depending on where you need to isolate to make gains where lacking. The normal SSJ would be a hand clamps at the very base and a hand clamps just below the head and bring them together like an accordion.

What would your "checkpoint" be for when somebody is ready to do the SSJ? Do you recommend doing several months of traditional girth exercises first?

Not at all. You can start with the SSJ right away.
