is it possible to do expressive stretching without equipment?

I ran into discussions on expressive stretching a couple of times but it seems there's always some equipment mentioned in connection to it (Uncle Jim's something). So my question is, can/should it be done without equipment? If I just grasp around the base *behind* the testicles and pull (carefully so as not to injure them) is that expressive stretching?

The idea is the lower you can grip the more fruitful the stretch may be. Thanks for replying. I do do some manual stretches with a low point of grip like you said, but I find I have to be careful so as not hurt my balls.
