My theory is that homosexuality is equated with child molestation, bestiality, and worse. In the States, this message is drummed into our heads from pulpit to Oval Office (you could be excused for thinking that they're the same thing these days).

Most people can't see past the 'sex' in homosexuality to the fact that gay people are just like everyone else. We happen to be attracted physically or emotionally to members of the same sex, for whatever biological or sociological reason.

All of our lives we're told that anything same sex is dangerous, sick, and perverted, and consequently, illegal. Despite the facts of biology. (I believe that homosexual acts occur frequently in nature but species don't die off because of it).

Therefore, we learn that gay is bad. Therefore, we hate gay and distance ourselves from even the HINT of it.

Things are changing for the better, I think. Many young people realize that it doesn't make a fucking bit of difference who you sleep with, and that, ultimately, it's no one's fucking business.
