Except all the haters out there. but Best to you, keep your fuckin head up.

Thanks man. Im sober right now, and I thank you for the thoughts. I just have fell in love with being out of reality. Its so good. Since Ive started Ive learned to save it for the weekends as its hell trying to work the next day. Soon I hope to try some mushrooms and see how that feels. Going to try and order the grow kit.

If you're depressed mushrooms are a bad idea.

I agree. Though ecstasy would seem to be the obvious drug to turn to maybe even more than alcohol or pot and certainly more than shrooms or acid ..... http://www.mattersofsize.com/forumnew/deep-thoughts/30988-fuck-all-2.html#post273363 ..... I don't and never will advocate trying to turn to substances for an answer to depression.

Depression is a state of perception based on a reality that you are not comfortable with. The perception and or that reality should be challenged and overcome in a clean and sober state. Substances will either make it worse during, after or create a codependency for those substances. With substances like shrooms or acid, things are likely to get worse during and after use.

do NOT begin to dabble with mushroms, or any other drug for that matter. your addiction(im not a fan of this word) problem is booze, don't make it 2 problems, or 3 problems... you see where im going with this.

i've seen a ruck of elements of yourself from what you describe in people i know and have known. trust me, THEY ALL END UP DOING HEROIN coz its the end of the line. some came back from it, some still struggle, some are gone forever.

im in no position to offer any other advice, so take care of yourself.

Hey bud. I replied to your PM. Just been busy.

On subject....

I disagree that lee is addicted, at this point, and I see signs in him recently that say he is steering away from even the possibility of becoming a habitual abuser and addict of anything - and hopefully that will be the case.

I don't think he has been drinking but for a few months, in which case he would not really be a psychological or physical addict. Plus, in his recent posts he seems to be learning his limits, as we all do, and showing a healthy relationship with alcohol by taking control of his drinking rather than letting it control him. This is far from addiction or alcoholism, in my opinion and experience.

...... it seems that lee is becoming one of plenty of healthy, responsible people who contribute the best to their families, friends and fellow citizens while responsibly enjoying alcohol. This is no surprise, considering that lee seemed to simply have so rough beginning based simply on lack of experience leading to overindulging.

Myself and most of the friends I have ever had in life have been where lee is with substance experimentation and curiousity and taken it much further with much more eclectic, habitual, frequent and excessive uses of various substances simultaneously ....including but not limited to alcohol, pot, opium, coke, acid, shrooms, ecstasy, prescription meds and more.

Few of us smoked crack, one of us shot up - out of maybe 50 people in my old "clique" at minimum. Now, my sister's old clique is a different story as they were all about speed and heroine and meth and that mess, so I learned from them as well.

Lee is obviously a man who undertsands the importance of and responsibility to family and friends, and who is stating that this is all new to him, he is trying to come to terms with changes in his life as he grows up, and he is quickly learning from newb drinking mistakes to the point where he is controlling his alcohol like most responsible drinkers do.

Having said that, I really think it is far too early to judge lee like this at all to the point where such concern is thoughtful but hugely overreacting in my opinion. And, again, I really don't see lee ever heading in that direction at this point and I hope I'm right.

However, having said all of that, I would also agree that it won't hurt to remind somebody like lee, or explain to them, that discipline with substances is very important ..... and responsibilities, lively activity and safety come first ..... because there is a fine line that one can eventually cross that leads to a slippery slope of problems. That fine line is largely determined by realizing what you are doing to yourself and that moderation and constant evaluation and re-evaluation of your experiences and reactions is extremely important .... and I think lee is beginning to really understand that instead of taking it in one year as it leaves the other. I think lee will steer clear and he has all my hopes in that regard.

P.P.

Your conclusions are all valid and well-taken--to a degree. But if Lee happens to be that one guy out of ten who is predisposed to using substances addictively, he is more likely to be headed down that "slippery slope" you mentioned. Right now he's more or less a "weekend warrior." But down the road, who knows? He's definitely "using" for the wrong reasons.

I know that when I was depressed, pot only made it worse--much worse. I was a potential garbage head--thank God I was able to stop when I did. But alcohol was my downfall. Each person is different, has a different physical and psychological make-up and reacts to substances in a way unique to him/her.

I NEVER used substances in a moderate way. I always went "whole hog," and then crashed hard--near death twice. That is my story. I hope Lee's turns out different. With the kind of support out there these days, there is hope that he will. I know he's a family man, so that may make a difference. I hope in his case it does.

I've done pretty much every drug there is, and no, I can't recommend any of them. Even my last girlfriend didn't care that I was a self destructive pothead hellbent on consuming as much alcohol as possible.

Hell, I'm drunk right now. The thing is...you can't let it get in the way of your life. You can't use drugs as an escape, because regardless of your mental status you are still subject to the chains of reality. Getting drunk isn't the best way to deal with your problems. If you aren't satisfied with life you should change it, it's not hard to do. I was once a janitor who sold pot and lived in a shitty apartment driving a shitty car and living a shitty day to day life. I didn't turn to drugs to escape from my problems, I fixed them.

You need to strive to stay in touch with reality. Deal with your problems while sober and go from there. I feel there is nothing wrong with substance use as long as it doesn't interfere with your day to day life. If you feel like getting drunk once in a while go for it, just don't let it get in the way of your responsibilities.

Mushrooms are a substance best used for spiritual enlightenment. As a nihilist I don't believe in religion or spirituality but I still stand by what I said. Mushrooms are not something to use to escape from reality. If anything, your mind will fuck with you and you'll end up having a bad trip due to your current depressed state.
