A clever application of glue or epoxy -before- it breaks might do the trick.
The little ribbon of plastic with the gear tooth seems to
break when it rises too high. The design is flimsy.
I've only broken them when they've ridden up the
skin of my thumb while unclamping them. If there were
some expoxy further up the run of that gear ribbon,
it'd be over twice as hard to break.
It'd be more difficult to unclamp too. (!) Experiment when it's not on you
to make sure it will still unclamp. Might start near the connection point
and glue a bit, ... then if that unclamps easily - add some more
glue further up, etc, until unclamping seems to degrade.
If I break another one, I'm going to try this.
