If you take all the studies in human psychology since the time of humans' comprehension, we, as males, instinctively try to organize and direct our paths with methods we "believe" are best for us. By doing so, we cradle ourselves in blankets of security we "believe" to be the ways of success. Unfortunately for us, that's merely an illusion as you pointed it out quite well. Some of us have fallen for those illusions and become the victims of our own delusions. This is why we have to constantly reassess the risks, balance the gains against the losses, and ensure multiple escape paths to adopt AND adapt to all probable situations. We live in a modern society that offered too much of this through laws, safeguards by public services, and provisions of necessities through our past failures. The newer generations lost and lack the capacity to adopt and adapt to newer challenges, and this is where we are now. We're unable to push through hardships with easier adaptability. 48 years of pure hell for me, and my wake-up call started when I was 4 years old. I recognized I lost nearly everything, and it took me 3 years to adopt the changes, and another 3 years to adapt to the situations by every means necessary to survive. 3 years to claw myself out of the pit of pure despair, by death or by might. This is why I came back to the community to help the brothers here, seeing more of us fall into the pit of despair each day
