If Not Photographic Memory, Then What Kind?

My girlfriend recently took a couple photographic memory tests and scored off the charts on them.

She took 8 of them on this site. http://38i.biz/pm/ You are scored by the number of guesses compared to the number you place correctly. Her worst score was 23 guesses and 20 correct and her best score was 20 guesses and 20 correct. My best was 23/20 and my worst was 15/2 before the program stopped me.

Then she took this one and scored 90%. I scored 20%. http://www.open2.net/bang/photographic_memory_launcher.html

Her ability to remember things like phone numbers, detailed conversations, past events (really sucks for me when we argue because she remembers the event so clearly compared to me IF I remember it at all), and other information that she is given is remarkable. I have never interacted with anyone who can do that before. You can show her a credit card for a second or two and she has all 16 numbers memorized already. I can't do that.

Yet she swears to me that she doesn't have a photographic memory. She just thinks she has a really fast deductive reasoning-type memory. She explained to me that in the 2nd test I listed, she simply looked at the patterns of white squares compared to black squares from one image to the other by shape such as a "T" or an upside-down triangle and found the lone white square that remains between the two images that way. I don't buy it and I think she is just ashamed of her near-photographic memory.

Take them and let me know what you think.

Any thoughts on this? To me, it seems like you pretty much have to be able to recall the image in your head to do well on these. The image disappears to me the moment it is taken away so I don't do well at all.

I think I may have a pretty similar memory to your girlfriends, at least in the conversation category. I'm not sure what you can do to make it better. Maybe it helps I'm a musician and I have to learn/memorize a lot of music, and not just my own part as well.

Some people have what's called autobiographical memory, they can remember every day of their lives in great detail.

She may have that, too. I don't know...I guess I'm just intimidated by her.

If she is the right one for you, you have ALL the time in the world............at least before 2012
