Correction I'm training, 3:1.SIM trains 2 on 1 off and gained I believe almost 3 inches in just 6 months! If you train will similar intensity and consistency then I imagine you'd be able to smash your goals in the same timeframe if you train 1 on 1 off.
That is: 3 days on and 1 day off, and repeat.
When I was doing hand stretches with my broomstick, I trained with less rest, like 6 days per week and one day rest.
I believe rest needs to be something we need to plan in advance. Not to much rest, just to keep you going so you can use full intensity the next session.
