Steve, this name sounds distinctly similar to Papaver (Papaver somniferum) which is a species of poppy (namely the opium poppy!) I wonder if it is derived from this plant?

The info I found says that it is derived from the Opium poppy plant. There are plenty of articles at NIH if you google "papaverine cream" on tissue expansion enhancements this can cause.

Too bad it originates from the opium poppy, since that would make it quite hard to acquire for testing yourself.
