Home Gym

HAs anyone used the Tech Rod home gym or have any knowledge of it? It looks kinda like a bow flex but costs much less. Wal Mart now carries the Tech Rod and I'd like to pick one up before they are gone.
 
If you're not working out at all right now, a home gym would help. But there isn't a home gym that beats actually going to the gym....depending upon what they have. Free weights are much much better for you than these cable machines. They work the muscles in different ways. True, cables do have their uses, as they keep pressure on the muscle all the way through the rep, but they can't compare to free weights.

Machines also aren't too bad, but I wouldn't ever train a muscle just with machines. So if you just want something that will improve your health, then the Tech Rod will help. But it won't give you huge muscles like they say in the BowFlex commercials (seeing as its basically the same type of machine). You MIGHT be lucky and get that way if you eat right, but it will take longer, and be harder....and your body would have to be the type that would react to that kind of stimulation more positively than others.
 
Thanks esteban. I should have mentioned that I am not interested in muscle mass at this time. However, I am mostly wanting to trim and tone in addition to the diet that I am on. For the first time in several years my blood ressure is down to normal and i want to take advantage of being able to exercise while it is down.

I do not personally klnow of anyone locally that uses the Tech Rod or Bow Flex. Just trying to figure out if it is a waste of money. My schedule is very very hectic and going to the gym would be impossible many weeks. Thanks.

I see about 7-8 exercises right off the top of my head that you could do. About 3 for the back, 1 for biceps, 1 for triceps, 1 for legs, 1 for the chest, and possibly a few more. So its up to you. The machine may say you can do more, I dunno, I just don't see it. Here's another machine you may want to look at as well though. It says it has over 50 exercises. I'm not so sure about that either. They probably do, I just don't know how many are necessary. ;) So its your choice. But if you don't want to go to the gym, and are just looking to kind of tone, and maybe get a bit more strength, then either one would be fine I guess.

That Weider one (the picture says its a Crossbow) has a rowing exercise though, which may be good for blood pressure. You'd have to check with your doctor on that though. It doesn't have the leg extension like the other one, but you could probably do squats with it.
