DLD, can we please do something about the censorship?

I noticed that the "Intro from a Former Lurker (and some ROP results)" thread is now trashed. This is the 3rd thread recently that I have seen trashed after a certain moderator jumps in and makes a total ass out of himself. WTF. I thought this place was a censorship free place, and don't say that it only happened because the thread starter was a troll. That was clear right from the get go and the thread wasn't gone until Kong jumped in and attacked me and I responded.

Can someone please explain to me the policy on deleting a thread? I know that nothing is "deleted", but merely moved to the trash, but to a regular member that is the same thing, as we cannot view or post in it, and it is destroyed to us as a record of the other posters' behavior. It seems that the rules all go out the window at individual moderators decisions.

Skepdick, I did not "attack" you. I believe I stayed pretty civil. I also did not trash that thread. That was a decision made by a couple other mods. Although I agree with its removal, it's not because I made an ass of myself (which is actually just a matter of opinion) but because the thread was entirely useless and blatantly deceptive. I have never trashed a thread because I thought I looked bad in it. I have, in fact, only trashed three threads since I've been a moderator. One, because the creator asked me to when his wife found out he posted some pics of his trout and flipped her wig. And two that were accidental double posts. That's it. Despite a tendency to lose my cool, I would never do what you are implying.

I never said or implied that you were the one that did the trashing. Once again, reread my post a little more clearly before replying.

As I've pointed out before a few times, you always seem to take great offense to my posts, I don't know why, but anyway. What you're basically saying is that any MOD can take it upon themselves to delete any thread that doesn't suit their purposes whenever they feel like it. That is fine if DLD doesn't have a problem with the removal of these threads. However, if this actually IS the official policy, he shouldn't market this as a censorship-free forum, which he routinely does.

I understand the point that free speech has its limits, but this is certainly not one of them. If a member jumped in here and made racist comments or threatened to track a member down in real life and kill them, that would be one thing, their words should be censored. But some bickering in a thread that unveils how childish and immature one of the mods is??? Come on, surely that doesn't transcend the realm of free speech, only makes you guys look like a bunch of hacks when it mysteriously disappears.

Three seperate moderators agreed to trash the thread and then it was done. There's a difference in censorship and trashing useless threads. Ultimately, every forum on the internet is free. If you don't like how one forum works, you're quite "free" to leave and go to another forum. No one is forcing you to stay here and put up with all us petty, immature and vicious moderators.

I am totally fine with ANY policy the MODS and ADMINS come up with. If you reread my posts, what I DO have a problem with is DLD claiming that this place is devoid of any censorship and he has said so on numerous occasions that this is the case. Disliking the rules and disliking the fact that the rules don't correspond with the claims of the administration are two entirely different cases. And yes, I'm sure you probably would like it if I would leave this forum but I don't plan on it anytime soon, sorry.

You guys want freedom of speech, but apparently without drama or BS, but not everyone agrees on what BS is, so we are in a quandary what to do right now. We let everyone say what they want and people cry "drama! flaming! This must end!" We exercise some editing and try to have more discipline, and you cry "censorship", so what are we supposed to do, really?

Simple, we can have a seperate forum for drama threads. They can get moved away from the main forums and you can even close the thread so the posting can't go on indefinantly. I just don't like to see things deleted such that the members are not accountable for their actions. There shoud be clear records here. This way, people that don't want to read the drama threads don't have to, and they won't go on forever because it is perfectly acceptable to close the posting in them. So there, there's your middleground.

This thread is closed because its just going to become another argument and drama thread which isnt what [words=http://www.mattersofsize.com/join-now.html]MOS[/words] is.
Things are soon going to change here, in the mod room we are makeing new rules which will make these freedom of speech members be limited in what crap they post on these forums.
Freedom of speech isnt a excuse to post lies, bullshit, abuse and other trash etc.
The new rules will be launched soon with blessing from the mods whom areb active at this forum and also dld and lightning.
