never experienced that either. it probably would be but chances are if your at the beach your wearing some form of swimshorts (most likely boardshorts) so for that reason they usually don't have any form of support liner in them (or mine havn't for the past couple years) . and with that usually being at the beach its nice weather but still a little chilly or possably windy so the hammer usually retracts a bit leaving a lot of extra skin at the top that usually seals the area up pretty good. so there usually is no worry for sand unless your having sex in the water or something.
