MityVac Hydro water trap Vacuum

Once I got the pump, I was able to try out the wet pumping with the Hydro Water Trap. I have as yet not been able use it again, it does provide a seal anymore. Is there something I am missing to get it maintain a vacuum? I now just use the pump without the trap and take the extra drag.
 
did you lose the black gasket that goes between the trap and the cap?
 
How much water do you put in the cylinder when doing wet pumping with the mityvac?

You want the entire cylinder filled with water (use the the water separator), you don't want air pockets. You need to replace the medium (air) with water.

I tried doing this and there’s no suction?
