I followed your advice as well, beforehand of getting a new handle;)
Okay. Silicone Grease is the only thing you should use.
No WD-40 should be allowed near rubber O-rings. Imagine WD-40 sucking into the vacuum cylinder and deteriorate the O-ring's prematurely.
You will loose vacuum pressure if the O-rings are bad.

Oh yes, that would be a mess. I have both silicone grease, and also some light weight R/C car pure silicone shock absorber oil too. . Thank you very much for the tip too...:)
