I have friends who worked on the Oil rigs in Iraq prior to 9/11. Who told me one day they were at work and then the american army comes and secures their area and says they can't work. This was prior to 9/11 when they had no reason to do such things..

Man come on, if the military needed it then they needed it!! They are compinsated, I know about that stuff the military does that foreign and domestic. Its not the end of the world, you cant use that as a exchuse on why we should not be there

Not all countries think like americans though don't forget. Remember that American's started in Europe and when they were getting over populated they came to America and started there. Not to mention breaking every law that they will put you in jail for in order to establish america.

Yes it is needed to imperialize after awhile but majority of it is being done by Americans just to spread their ideologies.

I believe my points would still be the same if I lived in america. I have family and a lot of friends there who dont fully agree with what is going on. It all depends which side you are looking at it from.

In history it was the americans going around invading then using those people as slaves. In fact the Chinese were also used as slaves.

Maybe I see things different beacause of this. There are two sides to america, white america and non-white america. You have those who support white america and are scared of non-white america and wish that they would go back to where they came from. In all reality they did not come to america on their own.. they were forced and inslaved, ridiculed and raped. George bush supports this side of america and gives two shits about the poor or anything other than his side of the fence.

Maybe I am bitter because of this, maybe I have my own views about the US from living there i dont know. I can tell you that what you see on the news and how the government treats all people is much different in Canada.

kausion, I'm sorry to hear of the problems you've had with racism in this country, but it's not indicative of every person who lives in the US. Yes, we do have our racial problems. But if you consider the many different peoples that have come to this country over the years, seeking a better life, it's really not that bad. We have people here from just about every country on the planet, and overall, we do a pretty good job of getting along.

No, you don't have to agree with what Bush, or any US president does, but you have that luxury because you live under the protective blanket of the US. There is no threat Canada would be attacked because an attack on you would be tantamount to an attack on the US.

And we have maintained military bases around the world for pretty much the same reason. Do you think there would be a free South Korea today if the US didn't have a military presence on the DMZ? How long would have the Soviet Union stayed out of the rest of Europe if we weren't there? China and Japan weren't the best of friends after WWII. As a matter of fact, I'm sure China wouldn't of liked anything better than to wipe Japan off the face of the map after what Japan did to them in WWII.

So, yeah, you may think of us as bullies, but over the past 60 years or so, we have helped maintain some semblence of order on the planet.

Yes I see what you are saying. You must also keep in mind that you were in a hot zone from being part of the military correct? It is very different from minding your own business and having someone in your own country shooting off guns at your friends. A lost life is always a tragedy but a lost life over bullshit hits much harder in my opinion. I would rather die in battle against another country than to die in my own country because of someones temper tantrum. This is also why I respect your actions in the military.

The reason I say this is different is because before you join the military you keep all those thoughts in mind, whether in the back of your head or not. I know that before I joined the military I would be thinking about possibly becoming a POW or MIA or being in an intense battle to hold a certain stronghold.

It would be impossible for me to be in the exact hot zone you faced but its still not impossible for me to join the military and possibly end up in a hot zone. I have been shot at, yes I know its no fun and all your thoughts go right out the window. But when you are at war that is a different story.

Even though I'm White, I feel ya here K420. I feel like I'm on the other side of the fence too. Why?? Because I do not talk like them, I do not dress like them, I do not act like them, nor think like them. I might look like them, so I just blend in to some extent. When they get close the can tell I'm none of them. Because I see the bullshit going on in the ghettos by the police, I see the how the government tries to cover everything up. I see how the media exploits certain people and subjects. Personal choice hardly exists in America now days. There is a law for everything damn near. You should see the look on the faces of the rich ass white people when I go to a mall in there neck of the woods with my girlfriend from "The Hood". Some of those people see us, and go from a smile to a look of sickness, it ridiculas. Sometimes when I'm feeling rude because of the looks I'm getting I just walk by them and say "What"!

A friend of mine who is career military and a veteran, and currently holds a a rather high rank, has often told me that he was never bothered by anti-war protesters. This is because their right to protest and do as they pleased was the fundamental American right he believed in fighting to protect.

This is a bit old, but puts history in perspective for some of you. Regardless of whether we were aware Pearl Harbor was coming, it is actually a good thing. It secured our participation in the war, stopping Hitler before it was too late.

We just barely beat the Nazis to the atomic bomb, and it's development came about because of the war effort. It would be a far different world that we live in had we not entered when we did.

Supra, there is a difference between certain criticisms. Being critical of the actions of the US and not appreciating the risk our troops take are different things. Many professions are more dangerous than being in the military. Police Officers and Firefighters risk their lives all the time to protect the public. Your choice of profession doesn't really offer you any moral superiority.

I just saw on the news about a man who is still working in the CIA, who wrote a book that was also authorized by the CIA, about how the Iraq war was, quote "Osama Bin Laden's Dream".

Maybe Bush isnt the "Worst President in History" but I sincerely think his entire Administration including Bush, are the biggest bunch of fuckups we've ever had. They've alientated us, and rode the tital wave of public fear after 9/11.

Afghanistan war has been dropped from the "liberal" media like a bad habit. And Iraq has been this Presidents biggest mistake. I cant believe Bush supporters talk about Iraq like the War is over.

They claim people are liberated, but the deal was if we took out Saddam, we couldnt leave the place more dangerous than when Saddam was in power. And just today, there were 5 simutaneous attacks, and Fallujah has been almost lost to the insurgents.
