computer geeks such as me what type of HD should I buy? I'm gonna buy a 400-500 gb but can't decide what I want. Help a brother out and pretend i'm a brother
ehh' I like to stay away from new storage amount hard drives such as 400-500 as of now. at least until they get shit a bit more stable, plus making platters (disk that drive reads off of) bigger than before it makes it even more common to crash and burn per se on you. Best bet for you would be to go out on friday morning (4:30am-6:00am) get your ass in line somewhere like staples or something and get something along the lines of 160-300gigs and make sure it has a nice warrenty on it. You'll get a nice deal too!
black friday!! at compuas, they are sellin 200gb for 30 bucks after rebates. im not gonan go, but im thinking of goin to bestbuy to buy a 19" samsung LCD for 230. i dunno, actualy i think i should. i dunno, i sitll have one day to think. happy thanksgiving all
Hrm.. well, although I still want to stick with my theory on all this, i'm by no means an expert. I have a lot of personal experience with these things, so i'd check out www.storagereview.com. It gives all the bencHydromaxarks and tests they run on all sorts of hard drives and what they recommend. My personal picks for a hard drive manufacturer that I have had experience with, in order would be; Seagate because of their 5 year warrenty, Samsung, nice and quiet drive and a 3 year warrenty, Western Digital, now has 3 year warrenty although I have had 4 drives die on me within a year of purchase and friends have had bad experiences with them too. Then there is Maxtor, the only reason I put them last is because they only have a 1 year warrenty and I've had 3 drives die on me in a short peroid of time. The only rare instance is a drive that I still own from them (27.3gig Fireball) which still spins from 6 years ago and has been on almost 24/7 since then and outlived its original tower. All of the other companies such as Hitachi, LaCie, Fujitsu I have never owned and couldn't really give my opinion on. I hope this helps ya a bit.
