Can you actually be arrested in the UK just for saying things people dont like?

Sometimes I read some of the online UK tabloidish publications. I was just reading one that said some BBC host was being fired and was "reported to the police(wtf?)" because he said some minor racially sensitive remarks, that not only were not racist or remotely offensive IMO; but were pretty much the truth.

The thought police are already pretty bad here in the US, but not that bad.

Well being from the UK I know all about this tale.

The guys name is Kilroy, he does a morning chat show.
He was WELL out of line with what he said and thats summut comming from me.

The guy said in a newspaper [he writes a small column in one] that ALL arabs are - to sum it up in a nutshell - trouble, never put anything into the world. He also said that the UK/USA should go to the arab countrys and FINISH them off.

I think hes a racist.
Went well over the top - branding all arabs bad cos of that 9/11 thing.
Not right in my opinion.

I agree some Arabs are wankers, but saying that so too are some Asians, Africans, Amercians, Europeans etc etc etc.

The guys show has been suspended, he has 1 month [4 weeks] to do summut about whats been happening, otherwise he could get sacked and sued.

And YES the UK is VERY strict on racist scum, if ya say Paki over here it is a fine at least, can be a 6 month jail sentence.
The N'' word is a NO GO for certain, would mean a deff'' prison sentence.

The Laws in the UK are built to suit the immagrants IMHO, they get better treatment than the actual peeps born here, but thats another story.

As for Kilroy - he had a valid argument about the Arabs, but IMHO he worded it ALL WRONG, he ended up branding the whole Arab soceity, they are only fit for suicide bombings and shit like that, which isnt right cos theirs some good Arabs out their.

Yeah, I only saw some quotes, and the quotes I saw were not any big deal. They were basically just factual like "Arabs killed 3000 people in New York." It didn't say "ALL Arabs."


However, that is fucked up that you can get fined and or arrested for speech. It is definitely not a free speech area where you live.

I am against racist. I think it is the lowest most miserable form of collectivism. BUT, you should not be arrested or even fined or ticketed for it. Actions are criminal, thoughts are not.

Reasons being - the UK were bastards many years ago, we rules alot of the world, conqured the caribean and Africa and fuck knows what else- anyways it all went downhill, we could not fund our selves and them lands, so we let um rot [some] and they ended up a shit-tip - real poor and fucked to the bone.

I blame my own country for whats happening in South Africa and Zimbabwe know...we gave all the land to whites < aint good.

Now, what happened is alot of the countrues the UK ran started re-voking and fighting against us, they were given independance [nearly all] and left to sort um selves out.

What happened is that the UK gouvenrment said we owned you....so now as ya going independant ya have a choice .... stay in the new [example - India] of come to the UK as we have run ya country for years so ya can come along.
So tons and tons of many cultures came to the UK...THEY WERE ENTITLED TO, we killed most of their ancestors and ruled them and now had a chance of a better life, so they took it.
Over the yeard they had to put up with lots of raceists , and thats why the laws are so HARD in the UK, cos we have SO MANY diff'' cultures.......bare in mind the whole of England is smaller than the state of Georgia.....and yet we have as many cultures here as the entire USA.
Tthis is why we have laws favuroing the other races, cos I suppose we had to [alot of bad blood] and they complained, and theirs lots of human rights here for them.

Hope that sums some of the sitiation up and I presented it in a non biased way, if not tell me.

What?? Under what laws can they lock you up? Do you have any example cases? I just can't believe this... maybe if you shouted it at a black judge as he was letting you off a sentence, but just for using them?

You say that there are laws favouring black people now - and so they are favouring white people too. White people are finally realising what it feels like to have the shit end of the stick, and all i hear is complaints. However what I have said is THE GENRAL feelings in this country, people are TIRED of it.

I aint wasting my breath on it, I know I have worked alongside the police in Drink driving cases and other such crime, and from what I have dealt with, BLACK [coloured] people are nore likely to get off with the crime than a White man, white is the native race to the UK so I mean the natives here.
Laws are built to suit our coloured freinds, immagrants or not - this needs to change so if a crime is done we all get the same kinfe, not diff'' rules for one and other for another.

Just saying opinions, even if they are not racist is not libel or slander. And it is a civil crime, not a criminal one subject to prison time. Also, you would actually have to say something derogatory about someone ( a specific person) that is malicious and untrue.

Libel and Slander do not exist in many countries. But if you live in the Middle East and you say something bad or at all controversial, you could get thrown in prison, stoned or even beheaded.

I remember in England there was this whole Prince Charles Sex Scandal thing that no one could talk about but was the one question everyone wanted to ask. I remember if the tabloids printed something about Prince Charles and the Butler, they would get sued or something.

Now there is this whole Princess Diana Conspiracy thing going on. Something about how she predicted her own death in a car crash and something about Prince Charles wanting to kill her, so he could re-marry.

This Kilroy did an interview on TV tonight.
Was 15 mins long, with a BLACK [famous] British media guy.
Anyways it was intense, he was grilled left right and center.
Basiclly the papers got it WRONG [as usual] they printed this article TWICE ... it had been printed in April [same one] and no complaints...weird???

anyways Kilroy stucks by his story....I agree with him now after looking into it more, his words were twisted dudes.
