Bear killed that may have killed someone

I dont know if you heard in the news that this family vactioning at some national park- in the fucking middle of the woods- got attacked by a bear. Now, unfortunately a young girl ran from the bear, but it caught her and killed her. So, what do they do?

Well, of course the bear must be punished! So, they caught the bear they thought killed the girl and killed it.

FUCK THAT! Ok, it is sad that the girl died, but come on- your walking in bear country, your in the bears house mother fuckers. The bear is a wild animal and you chose to camp out where he lives. I see it as this- you fuck with the bull, you might just get the horns.

Does anyone else agree that its fucked up that they hunted down this bear and slaughtered him for being a fucking bear??? Mankind is so fucking stupid sometimes.

BEAR STORY (Largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world)

The downloaded pictures are of a man who works for the US Forest Service in Alaska and his trophy bear.

He was out deer hunting last week when a large grizzly bear charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy emptied his 7mm Magnum semi-automatic rifle into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The big bear was still alive so he reloaded and shot it several times in the head.

The bear was just over one thousand six hundred pounds It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder, 14' to the top of his head. It's the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world.

Of course, the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Commission did not let him keep it as a trophy, but the bear will be stuffed and mounted, and placed on display at the Anchorage airport to remind tourists of the risks involved when in the wild.

Based on the contents of the bears stomach, the Fish and Wildlife Commission established the bear had killed at least two humans in the past 72 hours including a missing hiker.

The US Forest Service, backtracking from where the bear had originated, found the hiker's 38-caliber pistol emptied. Not far from the pistol was the remains of the hiker. The other body has not been found.

Although the hiker fired six shots and managed to hit the grizzly with four shots (the Service ultimately found four 38 caliber slugs along with twelve 7mm slugs inside the bear's dead body), it only wounded the bear and probably angered it immensely.

The bear killed the hiker an estimated two days prior to the bear's own death by the gun of the Forest Service worker.

Think about this:

If you are an average size man; You would be level with the bear's navel when he stood upright. The bear would look you in the eye when it walked on all fours! To give additional perspective, consider that this particular bear, standing on its hind legs, could walk up to an average single story house and look over the roof, or walk up to a two story house and look in the bedroom windows.

Nice find Pandora,

Good for the bear- people probably tried to kill it too and it survived and had its revenge. Its a shame that people died, but I mean walk somewhere were there arent bears known to live idiots. I don't feel any sympathy for hunters who get mauled- they are cowards as I see it and I would root for the animal to fight back and win.

That was one big fucker of a bear. Ashame that people had to come into its home and fuck with it. Its bad enough that we are taking all of the animals land where they live, but we also have to go in and hunt them for sport wherever they exist.

I don't understand the logic of why a particular bear should be killed because of this. I suppose if the attack was, by all accounts unprovoked, then there may be a concern over the bear's disposition.

they do the same with dogs... which I can kind of understand because they are pets, but I don't think it should be done with wild animals...

Just keep a couple of things in mind when you think about this situation:
1. Humans are about the easiest prey on the planet besides pet shop puppies.
2. Bears will travel long distances in search of a good, steady food supply.
3. Playgrounds, shopping malls, churches, restaurants, sporting events etc. are all just jammed right full of good, steady food supplies for a bear.
4. Too much of a good thing will draw a crowd...even in bear land.
5. Every creature has the right to protect themselves and their young against further predation. And that includes people too.

That bear didn't get killed for bein' a bear, he, or most likely she, didn't get killed for punisHydromaxent or retribution. The bear got killed to keep other people from getting eaten in the future. Tragedy for every individual involved, but raw, true nature doesn't make nice, it's just nature.

More meat thanks for posting that. That bear was fucking huge. Unbelievable. As for that poor little girl that is a tradgedy. I understand why they killed the bear but I have a lot more insight into this story. This happened in Boulder, Co. Guess what? I used to live in Boulder. I used to jog in that exact same area all the time. Back then I only had one dog and would bring him too. There are signs fucking all over warning people not only about bears but also mountain lions. These yuppie fucks had no business out there. It is the parents who put that poor girl at risk and her blood is on their hands. They should be fucking prosecuted and their other children taken away from them. They know fuck all about responsible parenting. When I would go up there I always had my Beretta. I was more worried about some animal snatching my dog (he is only thirty pounds) than any danger to myself because I grew up in the woods and know the dangers. I practiced common fucking sense and took the necessary precautions. Those parent's are reckless fucking morons. As usual the careless of another has a price to be paid. In this case it was that poor girl and the bear.

OMFG I cant belive that .... the bear is a MONSTER .... fuck me.
I'm with Nobody on this ... signs are around, when I went to the USA and to areas where bears were the signs were everywhere and you DID NOT venture into those areas because you knew what could happen ... always have respect for the bears, they live by different rules to us and they dont have the understanding of humans so essentially that bear didnt know it killed a girl, it might have thought she was a small tasty animal ... very sad to hear about it though.

I know what you're saying, but a couple things:

1. A bear that big would laugh (or rather just get pissed) at your Beretta.

2. I'm sure for every incident like this, there are 100,000 families that vacation with no violent run-ins with bears. From what I understand, I think the girl wandered off, which would be the parenting mistake, not vacationing in a park. Bears in a park area like this should be a little more used to humans and I think it is unusual for a large bear to attack a six-year old like this.

I don't give a shit about bears. Sorry. Not that a bear knows the difference between "right" and "wrong", but if it kills it should be killed in my opinion. I don't camp myself, or hunt for that matter, but I don't really have sympathy for animals that attack regardless of whether or not we are in their territory. I understand why people camp and hunt, but I really don't care for either nor am I equating the two. One thing though is if I had small children I wouldn't think to go camping, but that's just me. If it isn't the right bear lol well that kind of sucks.

That makes no sense at all- you say that the bear doesnt know right and wrong, so why should it be punished? You contradict yourself.

They should have shot the retarded parents that brought the kid into bear country and let her roam around, the bear did nothing wrong, it was just being a bear.

Number one you have no idea what kind of ammo I had. I was packing four full 15-round clips (plus one in the chamber) of the now outlawed "Black Talons". Secondly the bear that killed this girl is NOT the one in the picture More Meat posted. The Colorado variety is no where near that size or capablility. If you know what you're doing and you were armed with what I had , the bear in question would be toast. I'm not trying to snap at you, just making it a point to clarify the matter.

Like I already said I understand why they killed the bear. I just think that it is totally fucked up that everyone has to pay the price but the stupid fuck parents themselves. They fucking asked for this to happen and it was totally avoidable. People like that need to stay at Starbucks and watch the Discovery Channel from the safety of their own home.

It might very well be a contradiction, but it is what it is. If I'm stupid enough to go camping and not watch my kids and a bear kills my child I will be at fault for sure, which was my point at the end in that while I am no outdoorsman if I were to be in that situation I'd probably either try to kill the bear or run. Whichever came first to me I'd do, but again you'll never find me in the woods or in a state park or what have you. For people to want some sort of punisHydromaxent done to the bear is natural, but as was stated by someone else I believe most unfortunate. I wasn't trying to make sense of out of it. I was simply stating that I don't give a shit about a bear one way or another in such cases. It's unfortunate for all involved, but for me it comes down to the life of a bear vs. the life of a child. The parents are at fault obviously for being there. One thing though I fail to understand though is how it matters anyway how I feel about it. I'm a peaceful person, but never having been in a similar situation I can only observe and say what I think I'd do or want to have done if I ever was involved in such a scenario. I'm not going near bears. I don't even like going to the zoo.

Not to get too far sidetracked, but wasn't the case Meat was referring to the recent Tennessee incident? Another aspect of the whole damn tragedy is that the attacking bear was most likely a mother responding to a perceived threat to her now starving cubs that nobody will likely ever see.
Here's the AP version of the story.

(AP) Authorities hunted Friday for a black bear that picked up a 2-year-old boy in its mouth and mauled his mother, critically injuring them before killing the child's older sister.

The attack came Thursday afternoon in the Cherokee National Forest in southeastern Tennessee.

The family was at a pool below Benton Falls on Chilhowee Mountain when the bear attacked, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said.

Witnesses told authorities the bear picked up the boy in its mouth while the mother and other visitors tried to fend it off with sticks and rocks, said Dan Hicks, a spokesman for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The mother and the boy were critically injured and flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, authorities said.

When the bear attacked, the 6-year-old girl ran away, authorities said. Rescuers found the girl's body about 100 yards down the trail from the falls. A bear was standing over her.

"Allegedly, after the rescue squad found the little girl, one of the squad members fired a shot from a small caliber handgun," Hicks said Friday. "We don't know whether the bear was hit or not. There was no blood, but it chased it off."

Hicks said authorities were using dogs and set traps baited with honey buns and doughnuts. Wildlife officers planned to put out more traps Friday morning, he said.

The 640,000-acre park runs along the Tennessee-North Carolina line southwest of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Rangers said black bears rarely attack humans and that the animal may have been suffering from a disease that affected its behavior.

"It's a pretty rare thing, black bears generally don't attack people. I can't think of any time other than, just really rare circumstances," said Monty Williams, park ranger.

In May 2000, a woman was killed by a black bear near Gatlinburg. Glena Ann Bradley, a schoolteacher from Cosby, was attacked by two female bears when she took a walk on a trail near a Smoky Mountains campground.

That's really weird because the report I saw on the news (Headline News I think) said Boulder, Co. Two seperate but similiar incidents?

ha. damn I thought the whole time this had to do with that TN bear. I lived in TN for a while and it caught my attention so I just figured MoreMeat was referring to it.

I agree with you here somewhat. I don't buy the argument that the bear has no concept whatsoever of "right" and "wrong". Of course, they don't have the ability to have a deep philosophical discussion on the issues to the degree that humans can, but I'm sure they have some level of understanding. Even in animals as basic as insects, we can see some traits of individual personalities such as some are more timid and others of the same species are more aggressive. You can observe your dog over a period of time and see in incredible range of emotions and realize they feel many of the same things we do. You can observe animals raising their young and by forms of coercion/punisHydromaxent/play/affection molding their behavior.

Surely many bears would think on some level that a 2-year old and 6-year old pose little danger. And yet others are naturally vicious and ruthless. Therefore, I don't really have a problem with putting this bear down.

All I know much about is Pennsylvania black bear and I don't know many people that would ever hunt them with less than a 30-06. I have never know anyone hunting them with a handgun of less power than a .44 magnum and I know most people consider the .357 round too light for the job. Bears are quick SOBs and the four clips is irrelevant, because a bear would likely start clawing at you before you shot off half the clip.

I ain't saying it wasn't smart to carry it. If I were concerned about a bear encounter, I suppose I would rather have a 9mm than no gun at all. As for the Black Talons, I've heard they were great for home defense, but I don't know what they would do on game animals.

Well here i go opening an old thread but though I would add this pic of the bears meal. This is part of the guy they found in that bears stomach from alaska. Guy had a nice Flacid size though LOL

That bear to me looked like the extinct huge ones that roamed in the Ice age and oddly enough they were all around the USA!

Doesnt look like a typical bear, did it turn out to be some rare breed?

Nope, it actually wasn't even a record breaker! At least it wasn't if we're both talkin' about the same bear; the one that was all over the internet ...ooohh....'bout a year or two ago or so.
Kodiak bears get right regulation humungous-all that fresh air and clean livin', I bet.
As far as the chomped up guy above; he's actually a tiger attack victim from somewhere in India, not Alaska; notice the palm fronds in the foreground. Palms don't really frow much in the Arctic.

Check out Snopes.com for the giant bear story...it's still a damn good one!

OMG those are HUGE and intimidating for sure! respect for anyone who goes near the large ones like that. I want to oneday visit Canada and see the bears live. The bear I was talking about, the monster bear was the one at the start of this thread and SURELY they dont get bigger?? I cant get the image out of my mind, these are scary creatures but lovely aswell haha cos they are so with the wild. I've seen polar bears in person and they are awesome, very clever animals but not cuddly haha

Yep, we're talkin' about the same bear...the one in the thread you linked to above is off the record mark by- according to the sites I investigated- about two feet in total length and 400-600 lbs in weight.
And that's for a Brown Bear, Polar Bears can get 20-30% bigger. Truly monsters.

The full impact of their size only hit me one day when I realized that a truly huge bear, at 12, 13 feet or more in standing height, could look over the back of most african elephants! Now that's damn big.

Once a human being gets away from our man-made, artificial, polluted (and just generally crappy) world and hits the real-live God-given world the entire spectrum of the food chain changes drastically...don'tcha think?
