Alternative to a condom?

Is there just any other alternative to using a condom? Are birth control pills safe? I've heard that it makes some girls sick, etc etc. Just how effective is birth control anyway? This is really random, but when a girl has her period, does that mean it's impossible to get pregnant during that time, or is this just a really big misconception?

There really isnt much alternative to a condom if youre interested in avoiding STDs. I thought I was in a committed, mutually trusting relationship a couple years ago...trusted the girl ya know and still ended up with genital warts. I wouldnt trust anyone until youre ready to marry them...even then, I'd get tested (both of you) for STD's before making a committment like that.

YES, a girl can still get pregnant on her period.
