Move up to Goliath?

I know that it is recommended that you use a X-40 for anything below ~6.2 girth. I am 5.5 girth midshaft, but my base can be up to 6.25, and I get a lot of red rings after using the X-40 even when flaccid. Should I consider a switchup?
