If you have any tips or advice, that doesnt diss anyone or anything else such as slagging the obvious lol ahem Windows.
Please tell us.
I myself have used Windows 95,98,98SE,2000 and now have XP.
I've used various server editions in my early network days but on my home systems its been those OS.
I love Windows, but it isnt perfect and has alot of holes.
However credit due to Mr Gates, hes done something no fucker else has and he also has the same syndrome as me...Aspergers so way to go the man with the mental disablity.
Now, I have recently tried Fether Linux and also Mepis...just do a search and the site will appear.
They are both Linux varients, and run via a LIVE CD.
Just DL the ISO and burn to a disk.
They both worked well, but Mepis for me I couldnt get it to access to internet or find my sound card....it looks SUPenis EnlargementRB and the GUI is exellent, really good.
Feather Linux found eveything and than some.
I got onto the net and my sound worked fine...my connection seemed faster than on Windows XP.
The GUI wasnt as good as Mepis or other windows versions, but it was alright and would do for me if I went to that distro.
I'm currently thinking to switching over to some varient of the Linux engine or a new OS entirely such as FreeOS or BEOS etc etc.
I reckon I'd make a partion on my HD and keep XP.
Share your thoughts on Operating systems and what you've used, use now and found the best.
Linux is a big beast ATM so whatever light can be shed to the masse'ss than do so here please.
Just dont bad mouth any group, like Windows and slag the whole thing off like I see everywhere on the net, its pointless and makes no sense when everyone in the IT world shares ideas and uses old ideas from someone else anyway.

Well RED, I'm pretty computer illiterate, but I use different ones. This computer has Windows 98. My Sony is a media computer with Windows XP Media Edition. My Gateway has standard Windows XP and my MacIntosh G4 has OSX version 10.3.

Hey Red, I'm on XP Pro 2nd edition, but I use NT, 2000, 98 for file sharing

I've also used every version of windows from Windows 3.0 to XP Pro. I currently use one of the following laptops/desktops depending on if i'm at home or work:

Laptop that dual boots between RedHat Linux 6.4 and Win2000 (personal)
laptop running Fedora Linux (personal)
Desktop running WinXP Pro (home)
Laptop running WinXP Pro (work laptop)
2 desktops running WinXP Pro (work computers)

I also have a server at home where i keep my MP3's (over 65gigs) and movies (over 40gigs) that i've downloaded. My wife and kids all have their our laptops or desktops.

I have to say that being a network engineer, my shit is locked down tight. All my network gear at home is Cisco (pix firewall, Catalyst switch, and Aironet AP).

Update: I recently tried LIVE versions of Mepis and Feather Linux which run straight from the CD in the form of a ISO file on bootup on my windows machine.
I was impressed with them both, especially Mepis.
However, I don't think I'll switch anytime soon.
