Using smaller bathmate insert for length gains, less water for less retention

I was wondering, if I bought a smaller long insert (x20 insert for x30 pump) could that be applied in the same theory with narrower air pumps for length gains? I'm well aware the bathmate is primarily a girth device and a way to gain length is from bathmate stretches, but I would really like to know if my question above is a possibility. Also, I hate water retention. So, if I were to fill up the bathmate and stop right before the gaiter would it be possible to lessen the probability of water retention? Any thoughts?​

Safer bet would be to purchase a pump sleeve or perhaps use a cockring. Friar Fige wrote about the use of cockrings during hydropump sessions.

Water retention is easily avoided with the 5x5x3 program, where you change between jelqing (Slow Squash Jelqing is favorited by many) and pumping. The longer you stay in the pump, the higher is the chance of retention. One can adjust the time when they become accustomed to the pumping.
I fill my pump to the brim. The retention is less likely to happen when you are completely submerged in water, or as in that your penis is covered by water. Some air on top of the pump might happen, but as long as your member is covered by water, all is well. (In my experience!)
