strange dreams/nightmares

recently,iv been experiencing this strange feeling when asleep.

now i dont know if anyone has ever read any research or aotever that may have answers as to why this is, but here goes.

basically, whenever i fall asleep lying on my right side, with the right side of my face on the pillow,i have these weird an sometimes quite scary dream/nitemares where im half asleep an half awake.
now its hard to explain, but i kind of know im asleep, but i also feel like im about to wake up,but i cant move,an cant get far enuff to wake up.
i dunno if that made any sense to you whatso ever lol.
it feels like im lost in a limbo, like if u can imagine waking up under anestetic?like im still in the dream, but im kinda concious to the real world.

this probly makes me seem like a complete nutcase, but its just freakin me out recntly an i just felt i had to tell someone to see if anyone else ever experiences anything similar.
this is not the only type either,i keep having dreams where im tryin to sleep(in the dream)but someone keeps putting a pillow over my face so i cant breath.naturally i worry as you would do lol, but after a while i know im dreaming, an just kinda dont do anythin until i do REALLY wake up.

it only seems to happen(or i only seem to remember it) when i do finally wake up and im lying on the right side of my face.could it be due to the positioning and pressure on the head or sumthin(bit of a long shot i know but just an idea)thats stimulating the brain in a weird way?

Yeah I feel ya real scary sometimes, You have to force yourself to get up. one time it happened to me and something was pulling the quilt away from me, I shit myself and forced myself with all my energy to move to get up to wake up even tho my eyes where open and the quilt getting pulled away from me. It feels like something is pining you down scary shit. Its like when you wake and you can't move something puts the fear of life into you.

Dam that crap scared me just reading it man...

I know exactly what you're talking about. The brain actually paralyzes the body while your asleep, so you are basically caught in limbo. Your brain is still 'sleeping' in a sense, but you are still conscious about it. It is really scary stuff. I used to bite my tongue to try and wake up from it.

I have this dream too often--usually when I'm overtired or eat something before I go to bed--sometimes when I nap during the day. It freaks me out too. I'm trying to awake and I can't.

PHEW!
in a way im glad i aint the only one who experiences this, altho i dont want other people to go through it lol.

knew id got at least a logical responce on here from some of you lot, even if not an answer.everytime iv mentioned it to people at work etc, they just laff and say im strange haha.

it is scary, but its almost more annoying than scary alot of the time.

Yeah things seem to happen off and on with this sort of thing depending on how "I am" that day. I've had that thing a couple of times where it seems like you're being rapped or whatever (I'm a guy), but fear is a personal battle is what I think. I just try to not let stupid shit get to me. Try to learn something about myself, maybe something that I've suppressed because I'm too afraid to face it head on. The mind is deep, and if something is a part of you, then it is a part of you and shouldn't be pushed deeper. Best quote I heard was from Blade 3, "don't let it go inward, use it." But I don't know.

Hope I don't sound cocky from this post, I tend to be the exact opposite.

Ha, since I brought up movies, I think there is a lot to be learned from the movie Fight Club. :s

:grab: This one is fucking tight.

It might be kinds related to sleep apnea, where you literally stop breathing for waaaaaay too long in your sleep. Sleep apnea's been linked to everything from heartburn to high blood pressure to .....well....death. If you're young and in good shape there's not much to worry about, but ya just might want to look into it a little more deeply....just in case.

That happens to almost everybody at some point. The feeling of not being able to move while sort of half asleep and sometimes you can't even breathe at all. You have to force yourself with all your might to move almost like you have to jar yourself awake. It's a period where you have woken, but your body is not quite awake so to speak. Your body and mind are not on the same page to put it in an easy way to think of it. You won't die. It's not possible to die no matter how long it seems that you can't move or breathe even though it is pretty scary.

Sounds like you're emabarking on a lucid dreaming adventure! Maybe you should learn about it and master it, seems you have natural ability these seem very much like early signs.

lucid dreaming adventure! every time it happened to me I would have to switch the light on and pray too God that the Bogey man was not gonna get me.

I woke up with a demon sitting on my chest quite a few times, no harm really the chinese say it's spirits talking to our higher mind when we're asleep.

If it is true then pulling the covers off me, is taking it too far. I definitely all ways sense that something not good was is in my presence tho.

what the fuck was you smoking before going to bed? lol

I used to have nightmares as a kid that someone was coming up the stairs to get me. When I had my ear against the pillow I used to hear my heartbeat and as I got more scared my heartbeat got faster and it sounded like he was running up the stairs faster. It was so vivid and scary that I used to pull my quilt over my head and one time I could actually feel him strangling me. My mum and dad never seemed too bothered about this and said I just had an vivid imagination and never did anything to help which pissed me off. One time it happened I saw a man with scaly skin poke his head round my bedroom door and say "trig trig" I was about 5 or 6 at the time I have never been so scared in all my life. I have always wondered if it was just a young kids imagination and what the fuck does trig trig mean.
Anyway the other weird thing is over the years I have dreamt of future places. Sometimes I can go to a place I have never been before and recognise it from one of my dreams like a really strong sense of deja vu. It is like when you sleep you slip out of our dimension and enter another where time and space cease to exist and all the points of time occur within a single moment. The analogy I have heard is linear time is like a piece of string and if you took that piece of string and scrunched it up in to a ball then all those points in time would be touching each other allowing us to see and jump to different points in time. I have heard yogi's and other mystics say that when we sleep we leave our bodies in the same way we do when we die its just that our bodies our still healthy so we can return to them. We only dream in light sleep REM sleep which is when we have a mixture of other dimension thoughts and the issues that are at the forefront of our minds i.e. what is worrying you at that given time. Once you slip in to deep sleep these worries fade away when you are in the sleep dimension. This also explains that feeling you get when you are nodding off and you suddenly wake up with a jolt and it feels like you have just fallen back in to your body.

I think it's called sleep apnea (spelling???) my ex used to get it where he is consious, but can't communicate or wake him self up.

He went to a special sleep clinic for sleeping disorders in the end, and they taught him what to do when it happens etc.....
