SSJ vs Jelqs for a newbie

Hey all, I'm new to the world of PE and was trying to figure this out.

I keep seeing DLD saying SSJs are the best girth exercise, but I've also heard they're advanced.

The MOS DVD Phase 1 routine doesn't mention SSJs and opts for jelqs instead.

The DVD recommends sticking to the lowest intensity phase for as long as possible until all the gains from that phase have been squeezed out.

Should I just stick to phase 1 for now and work up to SSJs or are they just so good that it's worth adding them in early?
 
My original goal was 7x6 when I started. I was going heavy on girth, gained no girth and a little length. I switched and went heavy on length, achieved my goal and gained a little girth.
