Should MOS Have a Chat Room?

So, we're huge now (that's what she said). I think we have enough guys bouncing around this place to have a ball with a chat room. There's newer forum software that allows for a chat room window at the top of each page. So, there's no longer a need to actually have a separate window for the chat. It will be wherever you are on the forum, at the top of the page. I think it's a cool idea, you guys?

Now that you mention it: We had such a chat room window here a few months ago or so. I was placed at the top of the main page. Idk why DLD and Lightning have removed it

Yes, just as Satyr my friend said- there was an open chat several (definitely not few- it was February-April of 2014 I think) months ago. I do not know why they removed it, but the way I see it- it has 1 PRO and 1 CON:

The PRO- is that it would be fun and comfortable to most members.
The CON- is that I think it would reduce the activity in the forum (people would stop opening theads to ask, but would rather ask in the chat (where they might be ignored). If they get their questions answered it would not be there alrady for the newbies having the same questions to see).

Now this is just my opinion and I was thinking about the chat as well, but it might be a double-edged sword (not literally dangerous in any way, but maybe risky to the forum activity).

I don't think it would hurt forum activity. Another forum I'm on has an active forum and chat where people mainly hang out to chat and get to know each other. Questions on actual topics get directed to the forums.

well i think everyone will be only talking personally with eachother. and any valuable information that can be shared by posting will not be there most of the time.
posting is slow but effective and plus everyone here i have seen spends very limited time and only reads then clears doubts and goes....lol

well chats can be useful if people is interested about knowing more membeers and stuff .... but what keeps the essence of the forum is the way we interact trough threads posting etc..besides we are here to learn about PE,If a member wants to know more about another member maybe they can use things like facebook or something ...

I don't think most of you guys are "getting" what I'm after with this thread. Nothing about the chat would take away from the rest of the forum. If anything, it's actually got the potential to bring MORE GUYS IN. That's what it does on other forums I've seen using a live chat box at the top of the forum pages. Guys who are just curious about the site, lurking in the background can see that there is not only a busy forum with a ton of posts all over, but there are also friendly people constantly chatting at all hours of the day in the chat box. It makes the site more appealing overall. It's a "shoot the shit" and interaction things. If a guy wants to ask a question about whatever to do with PE, that's where someone says, yea man it's in the main PE forum below....

In the beginning yes, later on- not so many people. When it was active, it was pretty fun and nice, though!

But you should only be able to use it, if you have enough reps. Therefore less spam i think (=

Chatrooms have always failed here, I can ask LIGHTNING to reinstall it but when it was up the past 4 times no one really used it.
