Need help from the Weight Lifters...

Ive searched around a bit and cant find an answer to my question..

First off, Ive been on mass gain program for a while now and have been cramming as much protein as I can into my gullet for about a month. Im quite happy with my results and have improved my physique and overall health dramatically.. I feel great!

I now want to just cut away some of the excess 'bulk' that I have on my whole body, especially around my stomach- I do cardio daily and lift every other day.. Abs about 5 times a week..

Right now I go for 270 grams of protein a day in order to keep gaining mass- I mostly dont get there by the end of the day, but im usually close to it- I weighed around 180 lbs before I started this program and a month later im closer to 190 lbs. Im sure that all i have gained is muscle as I look much leaner now...

Ok finally my question- I have a tendency to ramble on in my postings  , ---- If I want to lose more of the fat on my body and cycle a fat loss program for a month, how much protein should I get a day? Does 1 gram per my ideal body weight sound about right? That is, if I want to get down to 180 lbs with no fat should i intake around 180 grams of protein a day? Keep in mind though, I will still be lifting and dont want to lose any muscle mass, just fat.. I would also still like to gain some more lean muscle so I dont want to not eat enough protein..

Advice will be well appreciated guys, thanks..

it is almost impossible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time...most of the time when people cut they do lose some muscle. Try carb cycling, and keeping the protein around 180-220 grams should be fine

Right.. and what exactly is carb cycling? Is it just eating less carbs for like a week and then eating normally etc..?

I would make sure that you are consuming as few carbs (especially refined/sugar carbs) as possible. Your protien intake will have no impact on your fat loss/gain. You main concern and focus should be to continue to take in your protien, and watch your carb intake. Dont cut all carbs...but your non complex carb consumption should be next to nothing. Protien does not cause you to gain fat. An excess of carbs is usually the biggest culprit. However, if you are using a protien powder that has a HIGH or even moderate amount of carbs, you could be fighting an uphill battle. Many protien powders are LOADED with sugars "for taste". You can get the protien you need without the sugar. Isopure is an excellent brand that comes to mind. They have zero carb powders in great flavors, and with around 50 grams of protien per serving. No, I dont work for them lol...I just love their stuff from past user experience.

Heres a site that has some good prices, and will give you an idea :

Yeah, thanks still,

I believe this is why Ive been noticing fat from all over my body burning up.. I have reduced my carb intake dramatically.. The only carbs I take in are from say fruits, nuts, and my protein shakes.. I cut out all soda and things like white rice and bread- havent had a sandwich in god knows how long- and I used to live off of them! The funny thing is, after changing my diet pretty much completly one day, I dont miss any of the other stuff I used to eat and drink..

I still do take a weight gainer before and after my workouts, 1/2 dose before and 1/2 after.. Just to get some protein and amino acids to my body when the need them, but soon Im going to cut this and just go for a normal whey protein shake before and after- low carb preferably.. I know that I dont really need to cut too much of anything out of my diet really as it seems to be working beautifully for me so far. I guess all there is to do is keep doing what ive been doing workout wise, and try to cut back on my carbs a bit more- keeping my protein intake at around 240-250.

Sound good?

check out my log. you could get some good diet ideas, particularly the last couple pages. Getting pretty lean right now.

Goldie, read some of your log; you don't go for the 6 smaller meals a day instead of the 3 big meals? Is this personal preference or..? I only ask because I have read a lot in support of the more smaller meal program raising your metabolism. Personally, I have noticed since switching to the 6 meals, I have much better sustained energy throughout the day, never really crave bad foods- this is huge, and never get sleepy from eating. Just curious/ suggesting, though im sure youve already heard of this.
