This is some fucked up shit right here. Land Reform...United States doesn't like this idea in the Latin and South American region. I've tried explaining why in the past. Venezuela...4th largest crude oil exporter to the U.S. Seems like deja vu all over again.

It's amazing to me how that country can be viewed as in turmoil recently about its economic concerns as though it hasn't been suffering the exact economic woes for quite a few decades now. It's part of the reason Chavez attempted to overthrow the Venezuelan President in 92. The poor was getting poorer and the ones lining their pockets from the blood of the people were those oil companies. The big question has been for dome time now when are things going to get better for the other 95% of the population. Still, those 95% chant Chavez's name. The top 5% call him a tyrant in fear of losing their massive chunk of pie.

I worked with a Venezulean a year ago that said he wished so bad that U.S. would liberate that country, for what it's worth.

The U.S if anything wouldn't liberate the country. Venezuela enjoyed a fair amount of prosperity before all the oil companies and natural gas companies gouged the place and it didn't help that the money brought to the economy was pretty squandered for decades. I went to school with a Colombian woman this quarter and she argued the same points as I have about her country and the guerillas there. Who are the ones killing the farmers there and why? Who has kicked them off the land? Who won't allow land reform and why? She wanted people to know that those people are fighting for their land and family's well being. She said most people think of all the drug dealers when it comes to her country, but she added not everything is black and white. Some of these people do grow the plants and sell the actual drugs but it's only to make up for the money that the land they once had which was taken away from them. The land that would have allowed for them to just live their lives like anyone else. I've read that when such is the case there are some that contribute the money from the drugs to support the guerrillas...And for what its worth Chavez has been elected President in landslides. So it's not as if he is a tyrant of some sort. Look at the country's history. Who are the ones with the influence and money to help that "liberation" come to pass? It wouldn't surprise me if Chavez was taken out of office or killed within the next few years. He'll join the list of those who rose to prominence to lift up those he had to leave behind in the fight. His intentions for his people aren't what our media writes. But while he might seem paranoid he's got good reason. He could very well be killed soon.
