First hand Absinthe Experiences from Me

Got my order from http://www.Alandia.de today. Had it shipped via fed ex. Thats the only way to go if you want a 100% guaranteed delivery with no hassles (your order being confiscated) from customs.

I have read up and done my homework on how to drink this stuff. Theres the silly little ritual with the sugar cube and water, but I decided against that since I like to keep things simple. I got out my measuring glass, it resembles a 3oz shot glass with measuring marks on it. I poured 1.5oz of Absinthe in, then poured it over some ice and about 6 oz (about half a can) of Mello Yello. It went from light green to a cloudy whitish light green as it was supposed to. Let it get cold for a minute then tried some. Pretty good stuff. Has a light flavor resembling licorice. Mixed with the Mello Yello it was very tolerable...I usually cannot stand the flavor of licorice, so that is really saying something.

I downed the glass in about 5 minutes. I started feeling "something" within about 15 minutes. Keep in mind this was on an empty stomach. After about 25 minutes passed I was feeling pretty good. On only 1.5 oz too which surprised me. I know this is a 136 proof alcohol at the base, but the other stuff in it must play a role as well. At around the half hour after consumption mark, I was feeling like I had a heightened sense of being. Not buzzed, or high like from merely drinking alcohol or from weed or other drugs. Its been a couple hours. I would say that it was a very pleasant experience. THere's no "come down" or "crash" as the effects wear off.

I'm going to drink some more later tonight after I make an important call (not before ). I'm going to try two glasses within an hour or so and report back.

Sounds good. I love the stuff but sometimes get severe hangovers from it. That is only when I go a bit overboard. Same down side as alcohol alone. The best thing is to take it easy for a while so you know how you will react.

Ha. I have had plenty of booze in my time so far man. Probably more than most, I've come close to killing myself by overdose at least twice. Nothing I'm proud of, just past experience of being stupid with alcohol. Just the first time I've tried Absinthe. Most people in my generation here in the states dont even know what the stuff is.

I don't believe I've even noticed it in the grocery store..can't even remember the last time I saw it...It's almost as if Mountain Dew cancelled it out or something. Either way I really don't like pop anymore. I only know of Absinthe from that one movie Euro Trip...

Check out the movie "From Hell." It's the Jack the Ripper flick with Heather Graham and Johnny Depp. He uses it in the movie. It's actually a pretty good film, if you like Ripper lore. On the [words=http://www.mattersofsize.com/mosdvd.htm]DVD[/words] special features it has a little documentary on absinthe. I had never heard of chasing the green fairy til I saw this.

Also, I think Mello-Yello is regionally distributed. I knw I don't see it much in Texas, but I think they have more of in the east/southeast U.S.

Havent they removed the fun stuff in absinth`? Those that you get hallucinations and things with.

Would be fun to try, how it compare to booze. I have tried 96% pure alcohol, damn that is strong shit. My tounge got numbed for a while lol

Ahh ! Flaming shots with 180 proof grain alcohol. I definitely killed some brain cells in my younger days. I'm interested in the return of Absinthe and would like to try chasing the green fairy myself, Its probably due mainly to those two movies. I just won't drink it around my sister.

The real stuff is still made in euro. I got it shipped via Fed Ex. From what I understand the PRODUCTION of Absinthe is illegal stateside. You can still own the stuff. It's one of those 'grey areas'.

I recall something about opium for sure...chasing the dragon or something or other...is the part you are talking about Texan the bathtub scene?????I just remembered that part. It was in a vase looking vile of sorts and there is a glowing green liquid inside. I guess that's what you mean. okay yeah I remember that now.

It's been a long time since I've seen it as well. I don't remember the scene, I just remember not really knowing what he was doing and watching the bonus featurette on absinthe.

I ordered some called "Alandia Strong 68". Gooooood shit. Gonna try the Sebor brand next.

Ok, so I'm drinking the stuff again tonight. I've found that it mixes really well with lemonade of all things. I've had about 4.5 ounces so far (of Absinthe) measured by a shotglass. I'm feeling pretty damn good. I feel semi drunk, but at the same time not drunk. Hard to describe. I wouldnt go hop in my car and take a drive anywhere though.
