Is clamping very different to using a cock ring or is it basically the same thing?

If so, which is better for post girth sessions in the opinion of experienced brothers?

Go with the cock ring as it is easier to get in and out of than a clamp. The store sells many different cock rings.So I suggest you check them out. Inexpensive but very very good for girth trapping. Start out slow and work your way up to the pressure you feel is best.

Clamping is half the difference to the cock ring usage. Let me explain the reasoning. Other brothers can chime in.

When you're using a clamping device, you are essentially "trapping" or "constricting" your blood volume in full. The clamping method originally came from the incontinence penile devices to prevent accidental leakage for men going as far back as 1920. Rather than wearing a diaper, shorts, underwear, or even a penile condom that can be bulky and uncomfortable, or drinking medication that causes more headaches than as a solution, the simple device medical clamping device was used. The medical clamping device has a harder wood, plastic, or metal wide clip on the outside, BUT there are cushions with medical grade foam or soft rubber liners on the inside. This prevents "kinking" or "compression" to the blood vessels and nerves, resulting in internal damage.

BUT when you're using a compression method not properly designed, such as soft medical foam only meant to GENTLY compress the urethra and not the blood vessels you prevent the urine from coming out. But the brothers that misuse the clamp forces the blood vessels to be compressed at a greater level than the blood vessels can handle, the tissues are kinked like a vise, creating blood vessel walls to mishapped. In the process, the harsh wall of the clamp devices also compress the nerves by pressing the surrounding tissues against the nerve. At times, the rough edges of the devices also cut into the tissues, and those rough edges cause a blunt over compression, similar to a heavy vehicle wheel sits on top of your leg.

The worst thing is the compression itself causes a no blood flow, or a full "constriction". Full constriction prevents any kind of blood leaving or new blood entering for the oxygen cycling. Within 5 to 10 minutes, you have blood cell death. They clump with each other. Large enough clumps causes thrombosis. When the larger clumps clog the veins in your body, it can cause deep vein thrombosis that can cause heart-attacks, strokes, or seizures. If the clots happen to travel into your brain, you'll be brain-dead in no time.

What about the penis ring? The penis ring is a restrictive device, flexible enough to wrap around the entire penis, BUT, soft enough for the penis to perform a counter-pressure. For example, when you kegel, the blood pressure gets pushed into the penis. BUT, when the pressure is too high, the blood can also leave through hydrodynamic exchange. When the penis shrinks or relaxes, the tissues allow a small gap between the ring and allow the blood to exit over time. This is "restrictive" flow, NOT "constrictive" stagnation. For brothers that don't listen and purchase too small of a ring, the ring can act as a constrictive device and still kill you. The ring is soft enough to be pulled apart or cut with ease in case of an emergency.

Brothers may ask, but what happens if you don't tighten the clamp down too hard? Unfortunately, that's no longer clamping. That's just a hard version of a penis ring, with a possible accidental non-release issue. There were many cases where the brothers use the small cable clamps, with pads, to use as "safe" clamps. However, those clamps didn't release in time, or couldn't be removed as the penis turned purple, and eventually black because of blood "constriction". Quite a few brothers lost their penises. There was a two-year campaign about cable clamps being used in the US as any kind of penile device, causing destruction to males' genitalia. Of course, brothers won't listen, and the companies still explorer way to make money off desperate brothers.

If so, which is better for post girth sessions in the opinion of experienced brothers?

To be honest, I still have my own clamps I use. I modified the largest clamps possible with three measures of protection: first is the fastest and safest release system. Second is initial layer of compression foam that is considered as soft. The third is a secondary layer of softer compression support medical foam that does not cause any kind of blood vessel or nerve compression damage, as it acts as a restrictive system only; no constrictive system at all. This layer also acts as a safeguard to quickly pull and release any possible compression harm simply by pulling on the clamp, and any trapped blood will release immediately.

So, a heavily modified LARGE clamp that is used as a restrictive device and not a constrictive device CAN be used in place of a penis ring.
