How to measure? Ruler or flexible measure tape?

Hi MOS, What is the best way to measure BPEL? I use a flexible measure tape because i have a slightly curve upwards. If i measure with a ruler it seems a little bit shorter due to the curve... If i measure with my flexible measure tape, ill get my maximum BPEL. I think. Any advice on this?

Weird expansion from girth work
