trades or complete a degree

I was wondering what I should do, option 1: complete a BA degree with a major in sociology minor in history, which I am hoping will take me to law school. Option 2: take on a trade have guranteed job, and good salary. My friends see me as being a smart guy who should be in university and a lawyer, but my first yr went terrible because of some res bs, and I'm not really sure if I want to go through another yr. I am really not sure what to do right now. My family is made up of professional's(Doctor's, Lawyers...) who probably would look down upon me (if I went for the trade) given my past life choices and their opinions of me. Also not having a job at the end of the degree scares me quite a bit,given the tuition I would be paying for those yrs. Anyway I'm just looking for some feedback from people on the board. Thanks,

i have a business degree BBA but i am taking a pre apprenticeship for industrial millwright. i say get your degree then go into trades, lots of opportunities for someone as well rounded as us

Why are you going for a pre-apprenticeship if you have a BBA? Have you noticed any benefits from employers or etc by completing your degree? I'm jw

I think you should complete your degree but you're the only person that can decide. Do what feels right for you.

I can tell you right now, based on a neighbor's experiences, that if I were young right now exactly what I would do. I would get an associate's electrical degree. There are guys graduating in two years getting job offers right out of school for $20 hr. and sometimes $30 hr. or more. Bare in mind, this is without the journeymans or master electricians certifications that one must wait at least four years to get. It's a red hot field, IMHO.

The thing with law school is you can forget getting highly prestigious offers if you can't get into the top 25 or so schools, for the most part. Graduate from Capital University and you'll be working for one-fourth of what a Yale grad gets out of school. I don't know how bad your first year went, but if your grades were pretty poor then you've got a hole to climb out of. If you can't make it into a top school then you're just gambling that you'll fall into a good position at some point, but you'll pay your dues to get there.

Don't let your family and their ideas for your future dictate what you do. I did that to some extent and I believe I am paying for it to this day. They mean well and you should give their advice honest consideration, but don't let it steer you wrong. At the end of the day, the advice they're giving you is from the perspective they are familiar with and feel to be ideal, regardless of whether that is actually perception or reality.

i'm taking pre apprenticeship cuz its government funded (i don't pay a dime) and i get level one basic out of the way and all the safety training and forklift license. It will make me that much more employable after i'm done in sept. I have had a taste of the business world-shuffling papers, answering emails, getting lazy. I hated it, i've always wanted to do a trade. so thats why i'm doing a preapprenticeship. capish?

Get an honest job mate, get a trade, don't be one of those fucking money grabing bastards they call Lawyers. At least with a trade you be able to sleep at night. rather than thinking of that 95 year old granni, that you robbed of $5000, the day before.
