Is this ganster???

Your gucci boots the same color as mine. - Young Buck on I want to get to know you...

I wanted to post this, simply cause I think it's funny how the rap world is all about killin, money, and women. It's all image, no different than guys in rock bands, heck even country artists are just trying to playing to a certain image. I just have this thought about what's really going on in the world, and it's all image and media hype. There seems to be no substance in our country anymore, at least in the sense of what we are absorbing as consumers. Most of the music I listen to is hardcore christian rock or old music, stuff my dad listened to....I'm not saying it's a bad thing to be a consumer, but I do believe we should make a stand against some of the crap that gets put out lately.....I mean can we please kick reality tv to the curb....that includes the virus that started it all Real World.... Does anyone see this other than me???

I bought the new eminem album, and I am not sure of the quality of the recors, but he says some interesting things, which is the reason I bought it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that's the reason why most people bought it... I hate being a consumer whore....but it's the world I was brought up in... but I will say there's nothing like a John Lee Hooker or Miles Davis record to soothe the soul....What can we do collectively in the world to change these trends and to get some attention brought to the crappiness of these different industries???

Let's clarify that...Miles Davis in the early 60s, and before. :D

Commercial Rap is C.R.A.P.!

The most wasteful human beings IMO are commercial rappers and R&B singers. They fuck over more young people than they help pushing their "you're only cool if you're rich" image. They rap about being gangster but if that was the case they would have never made it to mainstream. Almost like the media purposely floods us with this new "Hip Hop/R&B Era" on the sole purpose to get middleclass to poor people to spend the money they have on the newest nike shoes and jewellery. I find it disgusting. None of them have a real message and what they rhyme about all sounds the same to me. They talk about how they are gonna get some fly chick because they cruised up in their bentley and how their pinky rings are worth more than their listeners houses. What kind of message is that?

Reality TV pisses me off as well. Same with all this sissy crap that is slowly being injected into the media to make men more feminine. I have no problem with homosexuals but why the sudden push to have it the new fad in tv?. Creating some sort of estrogen driven society if you ask me. I can only watch so much tv and never listen to the news through it or the radio. The shit they don't want you to find is on the internet anyway.

About the only thing "we" can do collectively as a society to change anything like this, is to stop buying the crap we dont like. BUT, demand will always drive supply.

true story kausion. I've noticed a serious decline in testosterone in any form of media. they've even done it in football to a degree, you can't hit the quarterback too hard, if you go helmet to helmet with a receiver you get fined $10,000 or more, but isn't that what you get paid to do as a defender??? Rappers are some of the most ignorant people in the world in regards to what they are pushing and the trauma that is setting into their primary consumer groups. I have friends of mine who dream of being rappers, cause it's the only way...one guy has a car worth more than the crapper he lives in.... it truly is a sad state that we live in. It's not even a cultural thing now, it has nothing to do with any kind of culture...Jay-z said it best cash, money, hoes...that's what it's all about... There are some quality neo-soul artists who are active in social reform, but they are few and far between compared to the amount of the other crap...

Nah, Em's got mad skillz, take the race out and you got competition for the likes of Big Pun or Rakim. The biggest issue with Slim is his skin color.

Slims skin color is the least of the issue, all he is is a mad little twelve year old....
His first CD was cool, mushroom song, I will still listen to that......
And that guilty conscience video was awesome too

So DLD, I dont quite understand are you a producer or something.....

Hows Pete Rocks new shit coming along???

Eminem (or the people in his clique/media pool) made his race the biggest issue. There are other white rappers out there that dont try to use gimmicks to sell their cds. Not that I'm sayin ALL of eminem's music is a gimmick, but every first single for every one of his CDs has had the same pop stupid bitching lil kid sounding rappin in it, meant to childishly offend people and in turn get sales.

You can check out Finesse's progress here: www.lordfinesse.net, we are always updating the site. I heard Pete's mix and it was nice, there is allot of fire on this album I am just tired of waitin' for it to drop.

I'm not a big fan of Eminem (or rap in general), but I think the reason he's so popular is because he's so damn catchy. Really, he has a serious talent for grabbing your ear and making you listen. I can't think of any pop musician/group out there right now that's as catchy as he is, except maybe Outkast...but I've heard Hey Ya WAY too many times.

But, as far as pop music goes, Sarah McLachlan and Coldplay is where it's at!

Interesting question right there...Musicians really have reached the point where they play to a certain image to market themselves. IT is afterall an actual industry. I mean look at the way it's come along. Music Videos are just crap to me. I've never liked them. I don't think I've ever like one. I listen to every kind of music expect country however; I have noticed that there really isn't anything of substance lyrically (other than the artist's personal issues) anymore. It's all the same crap. Emotion seems to be less embedded in what we have to listen to today. Lyrics that are written now seem to just play to the words that describe our emotions. (they just want it to sell)Perhaps, it takes a certain point in time where a generation of people are faced with something that makes it blink and ultimately flinch out of the way and forced to find its barrings again to get that kind of meaningful art you're referring to. It's the very unstable times that create the best. What we have is maybe the most diluted people ever (as a whole) creating music. I mean name your reason, money, sex, whatever it's been there for a while for these people, but it's advertised and has become a part of us more than ever. It's like our shroud has been made and this is it. There's really nothing there. That's not saying music today is without exceptions though. It just seems musicians today are writing more to just get themselves out there and have that single playing on the radio.

As far as what we can do? Hell, just don't listen and don't watch VH1 or any of the MTVs. I only watch MTV for pimp my ride. (I wish I lived out that way cause my car could use a major fixing up) And reality TV, I've never liked. I think it is about the same lines or argument as women when they say magazines or whatnot emit a ridiculously unrealistic perception as to what they should look like. Only with reality TV (which it is anything but) it backfires in it's approach to sell itself as such a thing as reality and shows how much of a douche these people on these shows act. I mean I flipped to MTV thinking maybe Pimp My Ride was on or something lol and it was Laguna Beach which I couldn't watch for longer than thirty seconds. I saw a few nice looking women and then I unfortunately heard them all talking. That was enough to make my body twitch and my head throb. Man, I hate reality TV. lol Who are these executives and writers making these decisions to create these things and why aren't they being thrown from a cliff? Now, I'd watch that show. A few writers sitting around pitching ideas and then getting the approval and just when it is about to get the official thumbs up a bunch of guys bust through the walls of the office and beat the hell out of them until they come up with a better quality show all together. All right, this post just proves how little substance I have. I just think everything technology wise in this country is available to nearly everyone and it just makes for people that want things and expect things too damn much too damn fast for the majority of ideas to be well thought out. I don't know. Technology is our way of adapting evolving in a slight way and it's great. It's just sometimes it can be perhaps too much easier than the way it had been a generation before.

BTW,
I listen to all the old rock bands my dad listened to as well. He was a musican for a while till he had me and then left Berkley to get an education in something that would ensure a steadier income.

The thing i hate is that this world is soooooo lazy.

Corporate Moguls think there is a formula for everything, once something works they rehash the same idea over and over and over again until everyone pukes.

So true but you know what badbal? Everything eventually gets destroyed by popularity. What we love as underground will no doubt be the same thing we will be puking on after it reaches the masses...Thats Life.

Ahem...this is pop musicians you're talking about. I don't like being lumped in with them as just "musicians."

Perhaps, it takes a certain point in time where a generation of people are faced with something that makes it blink and ultimately flinch out of the way and forced to find its barrings again to get that kind of meaningful art you're referring to.

This is what I'm trying to do with my music. But I don't think I'll have too much of an audience for my music. :D However, I have some friends at my school that, if they have any say in what pop music will become in the future, things are looking good. But unfortunately, it's rarely the talented ones that become famous these days.

"Nobody ever went broke by underestimating the taste of the American public" -HL Mencken

He was a musican for a while till he had me and then left Berkley to get an education in something that would ensure a steadier income.

Should be "Berklee." That's where I go. Granted, most musicians don't make it big like they dream of, and a lot of people have to find another job to support their family. Especially performance majors. It's very hard to make a living solely as a performer. Most perf. majors end up teaching and playing gigs on the side, or if they're really good, they play gigs and then teach on the side. Of course every once in a while you get a John Mayer or a Paula Cole or Diana Krall that comes to Berklee and majors in performance and makes it big. But I'm a composition major, so I'll be teaching for a living. Anyway...You find a lot more meaningful music in a more traditional context, IMO. I don't mean like Mozart or Beethoven, but check out some 20th century composers like Bela Bartok, John Tavener, Dmitri Shostakovich, or Henryk Gorecki. They have some amazing music, very emotional.

You need to be commercial to make an good living.
Some people are after the money, some after the fame. They are there for some reason, and they picked there lyrics because thats what the majority likes to hear.

Maybe the undergound music is better, but its not in the spotlights.

The music changes, in the 80's the rap wasnt about bitches and such. More just playing around with rhymes. Then N.W.A. came and started gangster rap, then it envolved into the music we got today.

True. Ahhh circle of life.

Its just too bad this world has little/no room for pure creativity. It has to be marketable, packagable, profitable. Im sure we have missed out on alot of great shit that wasnt "Deemed" profitable/..etc by the select few corporate types.
